We are currently recruiting an Information Governance and Compliance Officer to join us. This is an additional role to the team, reflecting our continued investment to ensure we continue to meet the needs of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), patients and the public now and in the future.

What is the role?

This role will work closely with and support our Information Governance Manager. You will provide proactive Information Governance support, offering specialist technical advice and ensuring that relevant strategies and policies are fit for purpose, effective and compliant with legislation. Some of the key responsibilities include: 

Assisting in reviewing and updating our Information Governance policy frameworkMaintaining Records of Processing Activities and Vendor Management, reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessment and drafting Data Sharing AgreementsGiving an initial response and ad hoc advice in relation to data breaches Contribute to organisation-wide projectsEnsuring appropriate and timely responses to Freedom of Information (FOI) & Data Subject Access Requests (DSAR)

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with knowledge and experience of Information Governance legal requirements including Data Protection Act /UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations. Some of the key skills we are looking for include:

Excellent communication skills - with the ability to translate complex and technical information to a range of stakeholdersAble to work proactively, including using own initiative to problem solveWorks well under pressure and capable of working to deadlinesAble to build and maintain strong, productive relationships with a variety of stakeholdersComfortable interpreting legislation, codes of practice and statutory guidance
