Job at University of Bath in Bath, Bath and North East Somerset, BA2

The University of Bath is launching a significant new initiative with the establishment of the Policing Academic Centre of Excellence (P-ACE), set to commence on October 1, 2025. This venture, a recipient of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding and a partnership with the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC), is part of a national network of nine P-ACEs dedicated to enhancing the connection between academic research and policing practices.

The core mission of the P-ACE is to foster a more direct and effective translation of cutting-edge academic research, scientific advancements, and innovative technologies into tangible improvements within police services. This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of this transformative work.

About the Role: Knowledge Exchange (KE) Facilitator

The University of Bath is seeking a dynamic and skilled Knowledge Exchange (KE) Facilitator to play a pivotal role in the new P-ACE. This position is designed for an individual who can effectively synthesize and disseminate the university's world-leading research and expertise to its policing partners. In the often fast-paced and policy-driven environment of policing, this role is crucial for bridging the gap between academic insights and practical application.

The KE Facilitator will work collaboratively with the P-ACE core leadership team, building strong relationships with academic and professional staff across the University, as well as with external policing stakeholders and the wider P-ACE network. You will be a key driver of engagement, responsible for developing and executing the P-ACE’s KE and communication strategy.

Key Responsibilities and Opportunities:

  • Bridging Research and Practice: Translate complex academic findings into accessible formats for policymakers and stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for engagement, fostering robust relationships with policing partners and academic experts.
  • Operational Support: Contribute to the day-to-day running of the P-ACE, including event management and website/social media development.
  • Expertise Mobilization: Facilitate the rapid deployment of the university's expertise to address emerging policing needs, including managing a flexible fund in collaboration with leadership.
  • Problem Solving and Innovation: Proactively address challenges inherent in establishing a new centre, demonstrating independent judgment, creativity, and a willingness to seek feedback.

Who Should Apply?

This role is ideal for individuals with a background in academic research, particularly those with experience in communicating findings to non-academic audiences. Alternatively, professionals with significant experience in knowledge exchange, communications, or a related field will find this a compelling opportunity. You should be confident working independently while also being a strong collaborator.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Impactful Work: This position offers a chance to make a tangible difference in the policing sector by directly influencing policy and practice with evidence-based research.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: You will have the opportunity to engage with a wide array of academic disciplines within the University of Bath, including those focused on digital security, behavioural sciences, and criminal justice.
  • Networking Opportunities: Building connections with senior leaders in policing, academia, and the broader P-ACE network will significantly enhance your professional profile and future career prospects.
  • Skill Development: This role will sharpen your skills in communication, stakeholder management, project coordination, and strategic planning, all valuable assets for career progression.
  • Part-Time Flexibility: The role is offered at 0.6 FTE, providing a balance for those seeking to combine this impactful work with other commitments or professional development.
  • Fixed-Term Opportunity: The fixed-term nature of this role (ending September 30, 2028) provides a focused period to immerse yourself in establishing and contributing to a significant new initiative.

The University of Bath is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, celebrating differences, and encouraging applications from individuals of all backgrounds. They are proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant and an accredited Disability Confident Leader.

The university offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Generous annual leave allowance with additional discretionary days.
  • Extensive personal and professional development opportunities.
  • Health and wellbeing services, including free counselling.
  • Opportunities for cycle to work schemes and electric vehicle salary sacrifice.
  • Staff discounts on postgraduate tuition and language courses.
  • A supportive, family-friendly workplace.
  • Relocation assistance and visa support where applicable.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an ambitious professional looking to contribute to a vital area of public service and academic-university collaboration.
