We are seeking a motivated and organised Lead Fitness Instructor to join our team at the University of Worcester’s Riverside Fitness Centre – a hub for inclusive, community-focused health and wellbeing.
About the Role
As the Lead Fitness Instructor, you will oversee the daily operation and continued development of the Riverside Fitness Centre. You will manage a team of fitness instructors, ensure an inclusive and safe environment for all users, and contribute to the Centre’s success by driving membership engagement, supporting fitness programming, and maintaining high operational standards.
This is a unique opportunity to join a skilled team of exercise professionals within the School of Sport & Exercise Science (SSES). You will work closely with the Director of Sport Partnerships and Community Engagement and play a key role in enhancing student experience, staff wellbeing, and community outreach through fitness.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the operation of the Riverside Fitness Centre, ensuring effective staff scheduling and day-to-day delivery.Provide high-quality, inclusive fitness services for students, staff, and community members, including those with disabilities.Supervise and support fitness instructors, providing mentoring and ensuring training remains current and compliant.Promote fitness programmes and services through engaging communication and social media marketing.Monitor and report on business performance, membership data, and financial targets.Maintain a positive health and safety culture, ensuring risk assessments, equipment checks, and emergency procedures are up to date.Coordinate with academic staff to support student placements and professional short course delivery.Provide inductions, health screenings, and promote memberships confidently and professionally.About You
We’re looking for a confident communicator with strong leadership and organisational skills, a customer-focused attitude, and a passion for inclusive fitness delivery. You’ll be experienced in managing a gym environment and skilled in leading a team to deliver high standards of service.
You will bring:
A degree in Sport & Exercise Science (or similar discipline).Recognised Level 2 Fitness Instructor and Level 3 Personal Trainer qualifications.Proven experience working in the gym fitness industry, including staff supervision.Strong business, administrative and IT skills, with excellent attention to detail.Applied understanding of health & safety, safeguarding, and GDPR within a fitness environment.First Aid qualification (or willingness to complete) and the ability to respond effectively to incidents.Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships across the University and wider community.Eligibility for an enhanced DBS check and safeguarding certification.Desirable qualifications include higher-level fitness certifications and a full, clean driving licence.
