Why This Role is a Great Career Move:

  • Immediate Impact & Productivity: You'll be empowered to contribute from day one, with all necessary tools, PPE, and a company vehicle provided. This means you can focus on what you do best – keeping the lights on.
  • Competitive Compensation & Growth: The role offers a strong potential for earnings, with a base salary of £34,749 - £40,939 and a Circa £50k OTE driven by overtime and standby payments. Furthermore, SSEN champions a skills-based pay matrix, ensuring your salary grows as your expertise and qualifications advance. This is a fantastic incentive for continuous professional development.
  • Career Stability in a Growing Sector: Join a sustainable industry that is vital for the UK's infrastructure. SSEN Distribution is heavily investing in a cleaner, more secure energy future, providing excellent job security and a clear path for long-term career progression and increased authorisation levels.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Beyond the core role, SSE provides a wide array of benefits designed to support your family, finances, and overall wellbeing. These include discounts on private healthcare and gym memberships, wellbeing support like free online GPs and 24/7 counselling, and financial assistance through tech and transport season ticket loans, as well as the Cycle to Work scheme. Generous family entitlements, including maternity, adoption, and paternity leave, are also part of the offering.
  • Flexible Working Options: While the role is permanent and full-time, the availability of "Flexible First" options indicates a commitment to exploring work-life balance where possible.

Key Considerations for Aspiring Candidates:

  • Extensive Geographic Reach: This role offers significant flexibility in terms of location, with a wide array of base options across Poole, New Forest, Yeovil, Salisbury, West London, Slough, Reading, Swindon, Melksham, Andover, Oxford, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Basingstoke, Aldershot, and Petersfield. You'll need to be prepared for this broad operational area.
  • Core Responsibilities: As a Linesperson, your primary focus will be on construction and repair work across LV up to and including 11/33kV networks. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, with the expectation that you will be an ambassador for a robust safety culture and take responsibility for your own and colleagues' well-being.
  • Demanding Environment & Emergency Preparedness: This role can be physically demanding and requires you to work outdoors in all weather conditions. A critical aspect is the ability to respond quickly to emergency situations, demonstrating resilience and a commitment to providing excellent customer service when it's most needed.
  • Out-of-Hours Commitment: A willingness to undertake out-of-hours standby duties and respond to short-notice attendance for storm situations is essential. This requires flexibility and dedication to ensuring network reliability.
  • Essential Qualifications & Experience: Candidates must possess previous Linesperson experience and DNO industry experience, ideally with UK or overseas overhead line qualifications in LV, HV, 11kV & 33kV. Experience or qualifications in 11kV Live Line working are highly advantageous. A proven track record in the construction, repair, and operation of electrical plant and equipment is a must.
  • Safety & Communication Prowess: A high regard for safety is paramount. You'll need strong communication skills to convey technical information effectively and a flexible, enthusiastic approach to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is a non-negotiable requirement for this role.
  • Commitment to Inclusion: SSE is dedicated to fostering an open and inclusive workplace. They welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and are committed to making reasonable adjustments to ensure a positive application and employment experience.
