This role offers a clear pathway for career advancement and professional development within a company committed to a net-zero future. SSE is investing heavily in homegrown energy, making this an exciting time to join their mission to power a cleaner, more secure future.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Competitive Remuneration: A strong starting salary of £34,749 - £40,939, with significant opportunities for overtime and travel time pay, enhancing your overall earning potential.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Beyond the salary, SSE provides a company vehicle, full PPE and tools, and a comprehensive benefits package detailed on their careers site, which includes discounts on private healthcare, gym memberships, and access to wellbeing services like a free online GP and 24/7 counselling.
  • Career Growth and Development: SSE is invested in your future. You will receive training to gain further authorisations and authorisations. A personal development plan, created with your line manager and reviewed regularly, will actively shape your career progression within the company.
  • Supportive Team Environment: Join a growing team where safety is paramount. You'll work in an environment that actively encourages consultation and mutual support among all personnel.
  • Variety of Locations: The role offers flexibility with multiple base locations across Southern England, including Slough, Swindon, Oxford, Melksham, Andover, Yeovil, Poole, New Forest, Portsmouth, Petersfield, Aldershot, West London, and Reading.
  • Essential Training Provided: While prior experience is valued, SSE provides full training for operating key equipment such as Telehandlers and Mewps, as well as constructing mobile scaffolds.
  • London Allowance: If based in Slough or West London, you will benefit from an additional £3,000 London allowance, recognizing the higher cost of living in these areas.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Geographical Flexibility: A full, clean UK driving licence is essential. The role requires a flexible approach to working hours and locations, with extensive travel expected throughout the network area. Candidates must be within commuting distance of their designated depot.
  • Core Electrical Expertise: A solid foundation in installing electrical systems, containment, cabling, plant, and small wiring is crucial. Experience with DC battery systems, internal panel wiring modification, multicore cable terminating and glanding, wiring circuit breakers, CT's/VT's to marshalling kiosks and control panels, and AC/DC wiring is highly desirable.
  • Safety-First Mindset: A high regard for safety and an understanding of CDM regulations are non-negotiable. This role operates within live electricity substations, demanding constant vigilance and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Desirable but Not Essential Qualifications: While not mandatory, possessing knowledge of the electricity distribution network and experience in live substations (11kV - 132kV) would be a significant advantage. Previous operational authorisations and qualifications in areas like scaffold, telehandler, working at heights, confined space, and SMSTS would further strengthen your application.
  • Long-Term Vision: SSE's commitment to a net-zero future means this role is at the forefront of energy innovation. Candidates who are passionate about sustainable energy and eager to be part of transformative projects will find this particularly rewarding.
