Make Process Operator

Job Title: Make Process Operator Location: PSL Personal care factory Work-Level: CB6 5-crew shift pattern: 12-hour shifts of 2 days followed by 2 nights predominantly a 4 on 6 off pattern) JOB PURPOSE Safely operating plant and equipment to deliver customer requirements, with correct quality and cost effectiveness. Ensure area is fully optimised at all times by undertaking required maintenance and improvement tasks in order to meet business needs. Continually improving by making the appropriate decisions and ensuring they are followed through to a satisfactory conclusion. Provide weekend production support by controlling movement of all raw material streams from Goods Inwards to Process vessels - ensuring the right raw materials are picked and weighed correctly, delivered to the correct mixing location and returned to the correct storage location after use. Ensuring all materials are handled carefully and that all relevant procedures are followed. Provide weekend supervision of the safe & efficient offloading of bulk liquid & solid tankers; weekend circulation of used raw material packaging and weekend maintenance of accurate raw material stocks by correct and accurate use of SAP Warehouse Management system. RESPONSIBILITIES General 1. Maintaining excellent internal communications between team and areas via logbooks, Activity boards and handovers. 2. Maximize the use of any down time to carry out maintenance and improvement activities and any required coaching and training. 3. Ensuring cover at all times (for holidays, sickness, absenteeism and other reasons) through working effectively with colleagues and Line Manager to collectively manage holidays and cover rota 4. Complete all required SAP and paperwork transactions fully and on time to ensure complete traceability throughout process.” This makes it clear that SAP needs to be used for the whole process (from goods inwards to finished batch). Health, Safety and the Environment • Ensure Company safety policy, rules and procedures are understood and followed at all times and actively support a safety environment. • Identify and report health or safety hazards & dangerous situations. • Perform and document risk assessment. In particular if no RA exists then complete assessment and inform the leader which would require further training and support and involvement with COSHH • Take part in regular inspections/audits for good housekeeping and area safety and ensure agreed actions are completed. • As and when required, ensure that delivery drivers follow the site rules Carry daily Tank Farm checklist and act on any findings. Operations Manager Cell Leader Process Operator • Encourages ALL to behave in a safe manner Quality • Manufacture products in accordance with quality procedures and standards to achieve the required product quality targets at minimal waste levels. • Record all quality data as required and any non-conformance following quality procedures, • Take immediate actions to rectify quality issues. • Be involved in investigations into non-conformances; ensure zero quality defects by analyzing and eliminating all defects. • Identify quality critical control points, ensure they are monitored and maintained. • Record all quality data as required and any non-conformance following CRQS procedures During weekend production support • Carry out quality testing of incoming bulk raw materials required before off-loading bulk tankers. • Complete all required SAP and paperwork transactions fully and on time to ensure complete traceability throughout process. • Dispense raw materials in accordance with quality procedures and standards to achieve the required product quality targets at minimal waste levels. • Ensure that all containers are labelled accurately and replace any illegible labels. • Ensure that raw material containers (drum tops etc.) are clean and free from debris. • Ensure that raw materials containers being returned to storage location are free from drips and contamination. • Report any non-conformances following quality procedures, Take immediate actions to rectify quality issues. • Be involved in investigations into non-conformances; ensure zero quality defects by analysing and eliminating all defects. Customer Service • Review and understand production weekly plan and work with the Planning team to ensure that the plan is optimised at all times. • Continually review performance against plan, take appropriate corrective action if required. • Ensure that the area is running at the optimal speeds / throughput. • Anticipate and react quickly to problems in order to avoid impact to customer service. • Optimize changeovers by effective planning and execution and minimum run-up times by working with the planning team. • Make up of Carbopol solution to maintain stock in day tank including CIP and SIP of system as required Cost • Ensure that equipment is generating minimum waste. Ensure rapid adjustment of the process parameters when generating Product that is out of specification. • Maximise the re-use of rework at all times. • Identify improvements in order to reduce Cost, Waste and Energy. • Maximise the re-use of rework during own shift. • Operate the plant/area to the agreed budget. • Carry out cycle counting, stock checks and stock adjustments as required to ensure all stocks are accurate if required during weekend production support. 5S • Maintain 5S workplace organisation and implement required improvements • Ensure 5S standards are clearly defined and followed. Autonomous Maintenance • Understand and participate in the area AM master plan. • Carry out cleaning, inspections, lubrication and constantly monitor equipment condition to anticipate, breakdowns or any unplanned stoppages, tag as required. • Ensure AM standards are followed. • Update and use activity boards following the AM step process. • Ensure the work area is back to original conditions after maintenance activities. • Support the Leader in reducing the frequency and time of maintenance schedules by supporting them through improvements and reviewing the Maintenance activities. • Do improvements, replacements and adjustments within your proven skills and competency, look for opportunities to extend and broaden your maintenance activities. Effective Maintenance • Take part in PM briefs and debriefs. • Support the breakdown reporting providing information about breakdown conditions. • Support engineers on the breakdown analysis and countermeasures. Focused Improvement • Ensure the losses are being recorded and classified correctly and the loss data base is managed accurately. • Monitor area loss tree to identify loss pattern and take action to improve by understanding principles of equipment, be able to describe and analyse loss phenomenon and plan to eliminate these losses by eliminating the root cause using the appropriate FI tools. • Assist the leaders in Fix forever by supporting the use of the appropriate countermeasures, e.g. updating the AM or PM standards, Operating procedures, creating OPL or requesting training. • Demonstrate an ability to think beyond the immediate next step. • Reduce changeover times by the application of SMED techniques. Training and Development • Ensure all relevant personal skills are displayed on team skills matrix. • Close skills gaps identified by the skills matrix by arranging and completing training activities • Embrace training and development, sharing knowledge with other team members to support overall team development. • Seek feedback from others to further development of own skills behaviour. Early Management • Support the project team on the new equipment or product projects and ensure a vertical ramp up and changes to all applicable procedure. • Take part in Maintenance Prevention and PDI workshops as required.
