Key Responsibilities and What to Expect:

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be instrumental in the creation and lifecycle management of complex engineering solutions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing components, assemblies, and systems that meet stringent requirements for life, cost, availability, and safety.
  • Developing robust solutions that consider the entire product lifecycle, from concept through to disposal.
  • Integrating diverse engineering disciplines, including manufacturing, simulation, materials science, testing, and supply chain management.
  • Meticulously documenting and verifying designs against established engineering practices.
  • Presenting technical designs and justifications at review meetings to peers and expert panels.
  • Authoring safety and technical reports subject to rigorous customer and regulatory scrutiny.

What Rolls-Royce is Looking For:

While specific experience within the Submarines sector is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite. The company welcomes candidates with a strong mechanical design background from related industries such as:

  • A strong background in Mechanical Design Engineering.
  • The ability to hold and maintain Security Check clearance.
  • UK nationality is a requirement, with consideration for dual nationals in approved MoD cases, due to the sensitive nature of the work and assets protected.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Degree Qualified or Apprentice Trained in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly beneficial:
    • Nuclear primary components (including the reactor core)
    • Secondary propulsion components
    • In-service support and maintenance
    • Special purpose tools and equipment
    • Future product development
