Based mainly in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering Research Centre and the Advanced Composites Centre, the post-holder will work as part of a team of multi-skilled technicians to provide technical support to both teaching and research in the Department. Amongst the work the team supports are timetabled undergraduate teaching sessions, numerous student competition teams and a wide range of research activities.
The role requires use of conventional machine tools (milling machines, lathes) with the opportunity to progress onto CNC machine tools, where training would be provided. The team also provide skills in welding/fabrication in steel, stainless steel and aluminium together with bench fitting and assembly. Composite layup, curing and finishing will also be a requirement of the role.
This is a full-time, open ended position.
This is a student-facing role, so the post-holder needs to confident working and communicating with a diverse student population. Therefore, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe environment for students and colleagues and also contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduates during laboratory sessions and project activities.

Supporting Undergraduate Students in Design and Manufacture of Components and Test rigs for Final Year Projects.Supporting Students and Researchers in testing activities carried out in the departmental Wind and Water Tunnels.Supporting undergraduate teaching labs by instructing and supervising students in basic machining and fitting activities.Maintenance and service of Machines and Equipment within the labs.We consider ourselves to be a university where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged.
