We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our engineering team in Cardiff, replacing a long-standing team member who is retiring in September. This is a hands-on role supporting the smooth operation of the port’s critical infrastructure.

You’ll be responsible for:

Mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and breakdown response across the Cardiff site Working on heavy plant equipment, cranes, lock gate infrastructure, and bridges Ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently, with accurate reporting

Please note: You must be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces, including accessing cranes and lock bridge areas.

Skills, experiences, qualifications

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering Proven experience in heavy plant maintenance and repair Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics systems Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (e.g., cranes, lock bridges) Hands-on approach with excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills Experience in heavy industry environments such as steelworks, quarries, or manufacturing Ex-forces background welcomed Strong commitment to health and safety practices Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team Flexible to travel occasionally to Barry as required
