The Opportunity: Innovation in Action

As a Mechatronic Engineer, you will be a key player within Lear’s regional Innovation Hub, working as part of the EU & Africa Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering team. This role is perfectly suited for a hands-on engineer who thrives on practical problem-solving, experimentation, and the meticulous craft of engineering. You will collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts from Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality, and IT, as well as dedicated Innovation/Project Engineers, to conceptualize and deliver applied technologies and Industry 4.0 solutions into Lear’s regional operations. Your focus will be on integrating and deploying advanced technologies to enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity in manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities: Driving Technological Advancement

This position offers a comprehensive scope of responsibilities designed to challenge and develop your mechatronic engineering expertise:

  • System Design & Integration: You will be responsible for developing and integrating mechanical, electronic, and software components into functional robotic systems, and designing sophisticated control systems for automation and feedback loops.
  • Automation Development and Testing: This is a hands-on role where you will advance prototype systems to scalable, industrial-ready solutions. You'll gain experience in programming PLCs and industrial automation systems, implementing robotic workflows, and building/testing robotic prototypes using microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, and embedded systems. Furthermore, you will conduct simulations, validate performance using modeling tools, and actively research emerging robotics platforms, sensors, and automation technologies.
  • Continuous Learning: A core aspect of this role is fostering continuous learning and staying abreast of the latest technological advancements in the mechatronics field.
  • Compliance and Security: Ensuring all developed solutions adhere to company and industry standards, regulations, and security protocols, including meticulous documentation and intellectual property protection, is paramount.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: You will work collaboratively with the team to co-develop intelligent products, contributing to ideation sessions, feasibility studies, and technical workshops.

This role presents significant advantages for candidates looking to advance their career:

  • Hands-On, Lab-Based Experience: Ideal for those who love to tinker, experiment, and bring concepts to life through practical application.
  • Industry 4.0 Focus: You'll be working at the cutting edge of manufacturing technology, contributing to the digital transformation of a leading automotive supplier.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: The opportunity to work with a diverse range of experts across different departments fosters a holistic understanding of manufacturing operations.
  • Global Impact: Your contributions will directly influence Lear’s regional operations and, by extension, the automotive experiences of consumers worldwide.
  • Career Growth: Lear is committed to your development, offering access to learning and development opportunities.

  • Experience: Ideally, 3+ years of experience operating within an innovation environment, focused on developing and deploying automated initiatives into manufacturing. A Master's degree in a related engineering/technical field is preferred, though a Bachelor's degree with relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Practical Skills: Ability to integrate various systems and technologies, coupled with strong analytical and critical thinking skills to understand business processes and requirements.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills are essential, with the ability and willingness to work cross-functionally. Confidence in presenting and interfacing with senior stakeholders from multi-cultural backgrounds and functional disciplines is highly valued.
