Network Infrastructure Engineer

Permanent, Full-time

Remote role with occasional travel to the Bristol office

The Role

The Network Infrastructure Engineering Team will be responsible for designing, deploying and maintaining the organisations network infrastructure. This role is critical to ensuring secure, reliable and high-performing connectivity across all locations and systems. You will play a key role in building a network to support the interconnecting IT services and the overall growth of the business.

As a Network Infrastructure Engineer, you will work with cross-functional teams to deliver robust networking solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the organisations network architecture. You will also maintain the connectivity across multiple business units to ensure that shared infrastructure remains available to Dental employees.

The position is within the Specialist Infrastructure Team who are primarily tasked with designing and implementing technical solutions to support key initiatives outlined by business strategy as well as to develop and maintain the existing IT infrastructure services. They also provide an escalation point to the Infrastructure Operations Team who manage the 3rd/4th line BAU workstreams to support the other tiers of service desk, as well as facilitating the transition of new solutions into service from the Infrastructure Solutions Teams (Cloud, Network, Automation, Core, EUC and Security).

Responsibilities

Network Design and Implementation

Design, deploy, and manage network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, WLAN and SD-WAN solutions Configure and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers in HA designs Implement network solutions to meet performance, scalability, and security requirements

Monitoring and Troubleshooting

Monitor network performance and availability using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or other packet-capture/investigatory technology Diagnose and resolve complex network issues, ensuring minimal downtime Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures for recurring issues

Security and Compliance

Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best-practices (GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, CIS) Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and implement security patches and updates

Collaboration and Documentation

Work closely with other IT teams across the Dental business and across the wider organisation to support projects and resolve cross-functional technical challenges Document network configurations, processes and troubleshooting procedures Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and support staff

Continuous Improvement

Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies and tools Develop and implement strategies to improve network efficiency and reliability Stay updated on emerging trends in networking and cybersecurity

What we're looking for

Qualifications

Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Microsoft Azure Fundamentals Network qualifications such as Cisco’s CCNP, CCIE, CCNA or equivalent Palo Alto (Network Security, Security Operations or Cloud Security Generalist/Specialist)

Experience

5+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure, with at least 3 years focused on network infrastructure Expertise in configuring and managing enterprise networking equipment from vendors like Cisco, Palo Alto Strong understanding of routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and switching technologies (e.g. VLAN, STP) Experience with network security tools and protocols (e.g. firewalls, VPNs, SSL/TLS, NAC (ISE)) Familiarity with cloud networking solutions (e.g. Azure Virtual Network) Multi-disciplined capability across key Infrastructure systems (e.g. working with hybrid Active Directory connected systems, on-premises datacentres and hardware as well as cloud-hosted solutions, and handling the secure integration of core / network systems with the various types of endpoints and devices across the estate) Knowledge of wireless networking (e.g. Meraki WiFi design, configuration and troubleshooting, Cisco WLC) Proficiency in networking automation tools and scripting (e.g. Python, Ansible) Experience with enterprise-level, regulated industry policies and expectations (desirable) Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills Strong communication and teamwork abilities Ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
