The Opportunity: Powering Change and Community Growth

As a Technician at Hadyard Hill Wind Farm, you will be at the forefront of maintaining a vital 120MW operational site. This involves ensuring the safe and efficient generation of clean, homegrown electricity, while simultaneously supporting the local community through substantial, long-term investment. You will be instrumental in the day-to-day operations of a 51-turbine site, with additional responsibility for the satellite sites at Artfield and Balmurrie, comprising another 22 turbines.

Key Responsibilities and Growth Avenues:

  • Hands-on Maintenance and Problem-Solving: Conduct planned maintenance and expert fault-finding to guarantee the continuous and safe operation of our wind turbines.
  • Performance Optimization: Play a crucial role in maximizing turbine performance, ensuring the wind farm operates at peak efficiency throughout the year.
  • Mentorship and Skill Development: Collaborate with experienced technicians, learning and applying safe, structured work practices to deliver high-quality maintenance. This is an excellent environment for hands-on learning and professional growth.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively contribute to site performance enhancements, directly impacting the amount of renewable energy generated for homes and businesses.
  • Essential Operations: Participate in scheduled standby cover, a vital component for the safe and reliable operation of the wind farm (a rotational allowance is provided for this).

What SSE is Looking For:

  • A strong foundation with a Level 3 qualification (NC/SVQ or equivalent) in a mechanical or electrical discipline, ideally supported by a recognized apprenticeship.
  • Proven experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance; prior experience with wind turbines or heavy plant machinery is advantageous.
  • A solid understanding of safe working practices, including permit systems and working-at-height procedures.
  • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with the capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A commitment to residing within approximately 45 minutes of Hadyard Hill Wind Farm, or a willingness to relocate to meet this requirement.
