About the RoleAs the embedded EMR Gold Commander, you’ll lead Control operations in real time, ensuring a safe, reliable train service aligned with EMR’s strategic goals. As the on-shift leader, you’ll guide a multi-functional Control team, manage incidents, drive performance, and oversee people management within Control. We have roles available on both a Permanent and Fixed Term/Secondment basis.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and direct EMR’s real time operations as the shift lead.Monitor service performance, especially Quantified Target Methodology (QTM) metrics, and intervene as required.Anticipate and manage safety, customer experience, operational and commercial risks.Communicate service updates to Front-Line Management, On-Call and Leadership teams.Lead EMR’s response to incidents, using contingency plans and dynamic decision-making to maintain service and safety.Escalate to and notify On-Call staff, the EMR Executive Team and appropriate Commanders where necessary.Chair incident briefings, ensure strategic and tactical plans are clear, and lead formal incident management when required.Collaborate with Network Rail and industry partners during disruption and joint emergency responses using JESIP principles.Ensure the Control team adheres to EMR’s Safety Management System (SMS) and procedures.Foster a high-performing, inclusive team culture with strong people and performance management.Lead post-incident reviews, delivering clear, evidence-based recommendations.Act as a Senior Leader across the business, contributing to strategic objectives and maintaining competency.About You
Proven people leadership and performance management experience.Strong knowledge of railway safety procedures.Ability to assess risk, make strategic decisions, and lead under pressure.Skilled in running effective disruption meetings and holding teams to account.Continuous improvement mindset with excellent communication and influencing skills.Proven track record in meeting KPIs and business objectives.Strong commercial awareness, financial understanding, and stakeholder management skills.Comfortable with 24/7 shift working and experienced in similar operational leadership roles.Degree or equivalent operational experience, with strong IT proficiency.What We Offer
