Job Title: PCR Packaging Manager Location: Port Sunlight Research Lab Work-Level: 2A JOB PURPOSE The One Packaging R&D Centre aims to create a waste free, net zero packaging portfolio through a world class packaging materials capability with strong partnerships and ecosystems. The Centre will enable and accelerate the creation of novel packaging solutions to help meet Unilever packaging ambitions and completely revolutionizing our packaging a with particular focus on our flexibles portfolio. Lead and execute global R&D packaging programmes across Unilever to enable the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in our plastic portfolio. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop new post-consumer recycled plastic suppliers and grades for application into rigid and flexible packaging in South Asia. Lead packaging development activities, making recommendations to build robust PCR technical standards (specifications, test methods, safety requirements). Build technical/material understanding of PCR and how to improve properties and address specific challenges & risks (eg odour, colour, stress crack resistance, contamination). Engage with external suppliers (academia, startups, global suppliers) and the internal partners (R&D Categories, Procurement, Supply Chain) to help build the technology programme. Be the lead technical contact for all PCR based flexibles packaging projects , managing the different scopes and complexity levels. Support the business to help unlock increased usage of cost saving opportunities. Provide training to the wider packaging team in flexibles PCR application development. Build/Maintain/expand the PCR characterisation ecosystem in South Asia for faster delivery. Be the lead for PCR supplier validation/audit and support for process improvement for cost and quality. Candidate Profile Creative, highly passionate, willing to think big and inspire both the team and our stakeholders and internal customers. Leveraging your scientific curiosity, must be committed to continually developing your technical and competency skills. Must be proactive, self-starter, with the ability to multi-task and work to deadlines. Results-driven, delivering value-added technologies to a high technical rigour with high business impact. Must be able to work across time zones and in multicultural setting. Passionate about sustainability, brands and consumers. Technical Qualifications and Experience Expertise in plastics materials and applications, through to conversion technologies. Engineering or Science degree (e.g. chemical, materials, packaging). Relevant project management experience across different scopes and complexity levels. Working knowledge in plastic packaging conversion techniques (Blown Film Extrusion, Lamination and FFS.) and plastic materials (e.g. PP and PE). Working knowledge in laboratory analysis for packaging validations for films and laminates. Knowledge/experience with PCR and/or recycling technology is an advantage.
