The principal accountant reports to the Financial Planning and Reporting manager and leads a small team that are responsible for a number of business-critical functions. To give a flavour, some of the key responsibilities include the preparation of the Council’s annual financial statements, support to the Council’s budget setting and medium financial planning processes and the provision of high-level financial knowledge, support and expertise to support the Council’s decision-making.
You will have excellent communication (written and verbal), analytical skills and the ability to balance attention to detail whilst being able to look at the wider picture. You will be able to demonstrate up to date knowledge of local government finance matters and an ability to maximise potential in relation in the current climate of significant spending and funding pressures.
You will deputise in all respects for the Financial Planning and Reporting Manager and when required, represent Finance at meetings, committees, working groups and partnerships.

The Finance service has adopted a blended working policy which will allow you to spend a proportion of your time working remotely. There will be an expectation for you to attend the office according to business need, and this will be open to negotiation. Currently, the majority of our corporate finance and business partnering teams attend the workplace for two days per week.
