Job at John Lewis Partnership in Greater London, WC2N

Discover a Rewarding Real Estate Career at the John Lewis Partnership

Are you an RICS-accredited Real Estate Manager with a passion for diverse property portfolios and a desire to contribute to a unique, employee-owned business? This is an exceptional opportunity to join the esteemed Property (Real Estate) team at the John Lewis Partnership, a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation. This role offers a blend of strategic oversight and hands-on management across two significant and varied property interests, presenting a fantastic platform for professional growth and impact.

The Opportunity in Focus:

This Real Estate Manager position is designed for individuals who thrive in complex environments and possess a proven track record in managing substantial estates. The role centres on two key pillars:

  • The Leckford Estate: You will co-lead the real estate aspects of the c. £100m Leckford Estate in Hampshire. This multifaceted estate encompasses commercial ventures, farming operations, residential properties, a hotel, leisure facilities, and significant land holdings. Your responsibilities will include developing and executing a strategic property plan, optimising rental income and asset value, coordinating budgets, and fostering strong stakeholder relationships.
  • The Sublet Non Trading Estate: You will spearhead asset and property management for a national portfolio of retail, office, and warehouse spaces leased to third-party tenants. This involves the proactive management of external agents, strategies to maximise income, minimise void periods, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure robust compliance and health & safety standards.

What Makes This Role Stand Out? Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Diverse Portfolio Management: Gain invaluable experience managing a truly mixed-asset class estate, from commercial and residential to farming and leisure. This breadth of exposure will significantly enhance your skillset and marketability.
  • Strategic Impact: Play a crucial role in shaping the future of significant property assets, directly contributing to the financial success and strategic objectives of the John Lewis Partnership.
  • Employee Ownership & Culture: Become part of the UK's largest employee-owned business. This unique model fosters a strong sense of community, shared responsibility, and tangible rewards, creating a truly special working environment.
  • Professional Development: The Partnership is committed to the personal and professional growth of its Partners. This role offers clear opportunities to develop and stretch your capabilities, supported by a senior and experienced team.
  • Flexible Working: Embrace a hybrid working model that balances your personal needs with business requirements, fostering a healthy work-life integration. The team aims for approximately one day per week in the office to facilitate collaboration and connection.
  • Competitive Remuneration: The role offers an attractive salary range of up to £70,000 (with potential for higher, up to £90,000, based on experience) plus comprehensive benefits, reflecting the importance and seniority of this position.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • RICS Accreditation is Essential: Candidates must hold RICS accreditation, demonstrating a foundational level of professional qualification and ethical standing.
  • Extensive Experience Required: This role demands significant experience in portfolio management across a mixed asset class estate. Candidates should be ready to leverage their depth of knowledge in property market dynamics and legislation.
  • Strategic and Commercial Acumen: Beyond technical skills, successful candidates will exhibit creativity, curiosity, resourcefulness, strong commercial acumen, and excellent organisational and communication abilities.
  • Location Flexibility: While based at either London Head Office or Bracknell Head Office, be prepared for regular travel to the Leckford Estate as dictated by operational priorities.
  • Proactive Management: The role involves proactive management of lease renewals, rent reviews, rates appeals, and service charge reconciliations, requiring a diligent and detail-oriented approach.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Working closely with Legal, Finance, and various business units is paramount. Your ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively will be key to success.

This Real Estate Manager position at the John Lewis Partnership is more than just a job; it's an invitation to be part of a legacy and contribute to a thriving, employee-owned enterprise.
