Opportunity Review: Actuarial Valuation Specialist - Continental Europe (L&H Israel)

For aspiring actuaries seeking a challenging and impactful role within the life and health insurance sector, this position offers a compelling opportunity to contribute to the financial health and strategic management of a significant business portfolio.

The L&H Actuarial Valuation team for Continental Europe (CE) is looking for a motivated individual to take on key responsibilities for the financial reporting and in-force management of their life and health business in Israel. This is a chance to gain in-depth experience across a diverse range of products and to play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial submissions.

Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Direct Impact and Responsibility: This role provides a clear pathway to ownership, with direct responsibility for financial reporting and in-force management. You will have the opportunity to influence strategic decisions and drive improvements within the Israeli L&H business.
  • Comprehensive Actuarial Exposure: The position encompasses a wide array of actuarial tasks, including deep dives into product lines, experience studies, assumption setting, and the creation of reserve and income statement submissions. This breadth of experience is invaluable for career development.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will be an integral part of cross-functional teams, working closely with Market Unit, Costing, Accounting, Finance, and product development. This collaborative environment fosters a holistic understanding of the business and strengthens your interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Professional Development & Support: The company offers a study package to support your progress towards actuarial qualification, demonstrating a commitment to your long-term career growth. Guidance and support from senior actuaries and line managers are also emphasized.
  • Global Team Environment: Joining a wider CE Actuarial Valuation team of approximately 35 professionals spread across Zurich, Bangalore, and London offers exposure to diverse perspectives and working styles within a global organization.
  • Strategic Contribution: Your work will directly support the team's key objectives, including delivering robust financial results, actively managing the in-force portfolio to maintain ROE, and contributing to operational efficiency and global alignment.
  • Hybrid Work Model: The company promotes a hybrid work model, offering flexibility while ensuring in-person collaboration with at least three days a week in the office.
  • Competitive Compensation: The advertised salary range for this London-based position (GBP 60,000 - GBP 90,000) reflects the seniority and responsibilities of the role, complemented by a performance-based variable compensation component and a comprehensive benefits package.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Actuarial Expertise: A solid foundation in L&H re/insurance is crucial, with a preference for candidates who are qualified or part-qualified actuaries with at least five years of experience.
  • Analytical Rigor & Proactiveness: The role demands strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive mindset. You should be comfortable challenging the status quo and driving enhancements.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: The ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior management, is paramount.
  • Adaptability and Learning Agility: While experience is valued, a willingness to learn and adapt to new processes, systems, and reporting standards (e.g., IFRS 17) will be key to success.
  • Technology Proficiency: While MS Excel proficiency is a must, knowledge of MS Power BI and/or database software is considered an advantage and can enhance your value.
  • Team Player: The ability to build strong working relationships across different disciplines and contribute positively to a team environment is essential for navigating this role and the broader organizational landscape.

This role is an excellent stepping stone for an actuary looking to deepen their expertise in valuation and in-force management within a globally recognized insurance and reinsurance leader. It offers a dynamic environment where your analytical prowess and proactive approach can significantly contribute to the company's success.
