Job at University of Surrey in Guildford, Surrey, GU2

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.

We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.

Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

The role

The Computer Science Research Centre at the University of Surrey is seeking to recruit a research assistant in the field of applied cryptography and secure systems for a short-term full-time position. This is a fixed-term appointment for up to 6 months. The expected start date is June 16th 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The post holder will be contributing to an EU-funded research project “Ensuring Secure & Safe Connected Medical Devices Design with Zero Trust Principles” (the project short name is ENTRUST). The main responsibility of the post holder will be in the design and development of cryptographic protocols for real-world applications.

The Computer Science Research Centre within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences has an international reputation for research and teaching. Research in the centre is focused on two main areas - Nature Inspired Computing and Engineering (NICE), Cyber Security, with Surrey hosting UK Academic Centres of Excellence both in Research and in Education, both recognised by GCHQ.

The position offers the platform for the research assistant to develop skills to become an independent researcher.  The successful candidate will work under the direction of Professor Liqun Chen and Dr Yangguang Tian. The research assistant will also work with the other colleagues of the Surrey Centre for Cyber Security and collaborate with the other partners of the REWIRE project consortium.
