The Computer Science Research Centre at the University of Surrey is seeking to recruit a research assistant in the field of applied cryptography and secure systems for a short-term full-time position. This is a fixed-term appointment for up to 6 months. The expected start date is June 16th 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The post holder will be contributing to an EU-funded research project “Ensuring Secure & Safe Connected Medical Devices Design with Zero Trust Principles” (the project short name is ENTRUST). The main responsibility of the post holder will be in the design and development of cryptographic protocols for real-world applications.
The Computer Science Research Centre within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences has an international reputation for research and teaching. Research in the centre is focused on two main areas - Nature Inspired Computing and Engineering (NICE), Cyber Security, with Surrey hosting UK Academic Centres of Excellence both in Research and in Education, both recognised by GCHQ.
The position offers the platform for the research assistant to develop skills to become an independent researcher. The successful candidate will work under the direction of Professor Liqun Chen and Dr Yangguang Tian. The research assistant will also work with the other colleagues of the Surrey Centre for Cyber Security and collaborate with the other partners of the REWIRE project consortium.
About you
We are looking for applicants with strong interest in research and protocol design. They should have strong communication skills, and have enthusiasm for developing their own research ideas. Applicants should have a PhD or be currently working towards a PhD degree in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience.
