About the opportunity

The AstraZeneca R&D Data Sciences & AI Graduate Programme is a two-year opportunity for graduates eager to build a career at the intersection of data science, AI, and drug discovery. Through three eight-month placements, you'll gain hands-on experience applying data science and AI techniques across various R&D functions and therapy areas. Youll develop technical skills in data analysis, machine learning, and AI, while expanding your scientific knowledge and receiving mentorship from industry experts. This is your chance to shape the future of drug development with cutting-edge technologies.

Programme Details

Start Date: September 2026Duration: 2 yearsStructure: Three individual eight-month placementsFocus Areas: Machine learning, AI, and data science in drug discovery and developmentLocation: You will be based in Cambridge throughout the 2-year duration. No international placements are offered.

Placement Opportunities

Target Identification: Identify new targets for novel medicines.Drug Design and Development: Optimize the design, development, and manufacturing of new drugs.Clinical Trials and Digital Health: Redefine clinical trials and digital health to improve patient experience and outcomes.

Post-Programme Opportunities

Approximately 50% of graduates pursue a PhD, while others seek roles within AstraZeneca or elsewhere. Where will your journey take you?

Essential Requirements

Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in a quantitative science (e.g., Maths, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science) awarded in 2025 or due by September 2026.Experience: Hands-on experience in Data Science, AI, Machine Learning, Statistics, Computational Biology, Computational Chemistry, Bioinformatics, or Cheminformatics.Technical Skills: Deep understanding of key machine learning or statistical models. Proficiency in Python or multiple data-centric programming languages for Big Data analysis.Attributes: Innovative thinking, enthusiasm, energy, drive, strong critical thinking, planning, organizational and time management skills, and ability to work collaboratively.
