Job Description: SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment) Navigator Cromwell Hospital, London SW5 0TU Permanent Competitive Salary + Fantastic Benefits Full Time – 37.5 hours a week Monday to Friday We make health happen. The Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) Navigator is a key role within the multidisciplinary team, responsible for the physical, social and psychological needs of patients and carers who attend the oncology unit throughout their treatment pathway and will, with the support of the Deputy Matron, be responsible for co-ordinating the patient pathway. The post holder will have daily direct contact with patients and their families, providing support, advice and be the main point of contact liaising with the medical, nursing and pharmacy teams. Duties & Responsibilities: Patient Pathway Assist the Senior SACT Navigator to co-ordinate the activities of the oncology unit to maximise efficiency and prevent delays within the pathway. This includes allocating patient space effectively. Liaise with the medical, nursing and oncology pharmacy staff to co-ordinate the supply of SACT so that it is available for the time of each patients appointment. Triaging telephone calls during working hours to provide basic advice, support and signposting. This includes responding to queries from Self-Pay patients, ensuring that they obtain guidance about how to book appointments. Ensuring that all investigations are booked, results are available and authorised appropriately, prescriptions and consent are in place and medication ordered, prior to patients receiving treatment. To scan all medical reports, consents and other documents onto the Oncology Management System (OMS). Ensure the appropriate management of patient information and the co-ordination of patient pathways through collaborative working with medical secretaries, MDT coordinators, clinical nurse specialists and other departments as required. Financial & Insurance Administration Secure pre-authorisation for patient admissions through insurance portals, direct calls, and email correspondence with insurers. Liaise with International Patient Centre for all logs as required. Working with the pharmacy team, provide cost estimates and formal quotes for Self-Pay patients, responding promptly to pricing enquiries. This includes queries from Consultants for their Self-Pay patients. Quality and Governance Review the treatment schedules and ensure that all appointments are correctly booked and that capacity is maximised within the oncology unit. Assist in the development of care pathways and use initiative to implement improvements to the administrative element of the pathway. Patient Centric Communication and Team Collaboration We keep the patient at the heart of everything we do by ensuring clear, compassionate communication and seamless team collaboration for the best possible care experience. Act as a primary point of contact for patients, ensuring that they feel supported and well informed about their admission, treatment and who they can contact for assistance. Build strong relationships with consultants, medical secretaries, nursing staff, pharmacy team, finance teams and other hospital departments to ensure seamless coordination. Professional Development To be responsible for own learning in knowledge base relevant to own clinical area including mandatory training. To participate in regular formal supervision and develop a personal development plan that links into the department, and hospital, goals and objectives. To be responsible for managing own daily timetable of delegated tasks. Skills & Experience required Clinical background & experience working in a clinical environment IT Proficiency – Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience using hospital or booking systems (e.g. Compucare 8, insurance portals, CRM systems, or equivalent). Experience working in oncology. Experience in independent healthcare is an advantage. Experience of dealing with people who may be anxious or distressed.
