Key Considerations for Aspiring Candidates:

• Technical Foundation: A strong understanding of SCADA protocols (DNP3, IEC61850), RTUs, network communications, control systems, and HMIs is essential. A minimum HNC in a relevant engineering subject is desirable, though SSE is open to considering candidates with less experience and providing the necessary training.
• Practical Experience: Demonstrable experience in configuring and commissioning SCADA systems is vital. The ability to identify and rectify faults on SCADA and Telecoms equipment is a core requirement.
• Safety and Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with CDM regulations and experience in preparing RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements) and safe systems of work are important for ensuring safe and compliant operations.
• Adaptability and Mobility: The role is field-based and requires a current driving licence. Be prepared for travel away from your base location, which may include occasional overnight stays, due to the diverse and sometimes remote nature of the plant and equipment. You may also be required to participate in an emergency standby support rota.
