About the Role:

As an Engineering Support Fabricator, you will be at the forefront of maintaining and enhancing the operational readiness of submarines and surface ships. This is a hands-on position where your expertise in fabrication will be crucial. You will work collaboratively within a team that values precision, innovation, and making a tangible difference. The role involves performing a range of fabrication tasks, from light to heavy structural work, all while adhering to stringent engineering standards and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Performing light to heavy fabrication and structural activities to support vital maintenance and refit operations.
  • Interpreting complex engineering drawings, plans, and standards to manufacture and repair critical systems.
  • Investigating and diagnosing faults to determine effective repair solutions.
  • Completing Engineering Support work packages to ensure continuous operational availability.
  • Working diligently within health and safety legislation and contributing to ongoing process improvements.

The standard working hours are 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, from 07:15 to 16:45.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Essential Experience: A strong background in light and medium fabrication, including burning, welding, and drilling, is essential. Competence with power tools and workshop machinery is also required.
  • Adaptability: Candidates should be comfortable working in various environments, including at heights, in confined spaces, and over water. Familiarity with technical instructions, acceptance standards, maintenance procedures, risk assessments, and Safe Systems of Work is expected.
  • Qualifications: A recognised Welding/Fabrication/Plater Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ and City & Guilds equivalent) is a prerequisite. An HNC or above in a relevant discipline with industry experience is preferred.
  • Security Clearance: A critical requirement for this role is the ability to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance. This process involves checks related to your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, and residency.
