Job at East Riding of Yorkshire Council in Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire

Hornsea Community Primary School is embarking on an exciting transition, seeking a highly motivated and experienced School Business Manager (SBM) to join their dedicated team. This pivotal role, commencing from 1st January 2026, presents a unique opportunity for a proactive individual to significantly impact the school's success and sustainability.

This is more than just a management position; it's a chance to be at the heart of a vibrant primary school with over 400 pupils, including a specialised Enhanced Resource Provision for pupils with SEMH needs. You'll work as an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team, collaborating closely with the Co-Headteachers and Governing Board. Your expertise will directly contribute to enabling the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning by ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the school.

Key Advantages for Your Career Path:

  • Strategic Impact: This role offers genuine influence. You'll be instrumental in shaping strategic decisions, managing finances, resources, personnel, premises, and administrative functions. Your insights will be crucial for effective financial planning, budgeting, and reporting, including specific considerations for the Enhanced Resource Provision.
  • Leadership and Development: As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead and manage key operational areas including Finance, Premises, Health and Safety, and Personnel. This provides a fantastic platform for leadership development and the opportunity to mentor and manage administrative, premises, and lunchtime staff.
  • Financial Acumen and Innovation: You'll have the opportunity to actively seek grants and funding streams, enhancing the school's budget and resources. Driving efficiency and innovation across school operations will be a core part of your remit, allowing you to implement best practices and modern solutions.
  • Comprehensive Support and Training: A significant advantage is the extensive handover period with the current School Business Manager, who will remain in post until 30th January 2026. This offers invaluable transition support. Furthermore, access to East Riding of Yorkshire Council's development and training programmes, along with ongoing training as required, ensures continuous professional growth.
  • Supportive Environment: The school prides itself on a welcoming and supportive staff team and Governing Board. You'll be joining a team that values collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Work-Life Balance: The provision of flexible working days and hours demonstrates a commitment to supporting the well-being of their staff.
  • Valuable Experience: Working within a primary school setting, particularly one with an Enhanced Resource Provision, offers specialized experience that can be highly valuable for future career progression within the education sector.

Key Considerations for Potential Candidates:

  • Experience and Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a School Business Manager or Accountancy qualification, or an equivalent degree. Strong, demonstrable experience in finance processes and regulations, particularly within an educational environment, is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive Management: Be prepared for a broad scope of responsibility, encompassing financial management, HR processes, premises maintenance, health and safety compliance, and data protection as the named Data Protection Officer.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Excellent interpersonal, organisational, technological, and communication skills are essential. You will be liaising with various stakeholders, including the Local Authority Catering Team, Local Authority Human Resources, and the school's internal teams.
  • Proactive Approach: The role requires a proactive and motivated individual who can identify opportunities for improvement and drive initiatives forward.
  • Commitment to Education: A genuine interest in contributing to the educational success of children and supporting the school's mission will be paramount.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished School Business Manager to make a lasting contribution to Hornsea Community Primary School. If you are seeking a challenging yet rewarding role where you can leverage your expertise and leadership skills, we encourage you to explore this exciting prospect further.
