Job at Care UK in Sleaford, Lincolnshire

Are you a passionate chef seeking a dynamic role within a supportive and award-winning catering team? This Second Chef opportunity with Care UK presents an exciting avenue for culinary professionals looking to make a tangible difference while advancing their career.

The Opportunity: Be a Culinary Leader in a Rewarding Environment

As a Second Chef at Care UK, you will be an integral part of a team dedicated to culinary excellence and resident well-being. This role offers a unique blend of responsibility and creative freedom. You'll collaborate with an extensive supply chain to source ingredients, giving you the autonomy to design nutritious and balanced menus that cater to diverse needs.

This is more than just a kitchen role; it's an opportunity to:

  • Step into Leadership: Take charge of the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence, demonstrating your management and problem-solving skills.
  • Innovate and Inspire: Contribute to culinary development, sharing your ideas and raising standards through innovation.
  • Focus on Resident Well-being: Utilize modern equipment and fresh, local produce to create delicious and diet-sensitive meals that enhance residents' quality of life.
  • Shape Dining Experiences: Play a key role in menu planning, engaging with residents to understand and meet their preferences and dietary requirements.

Key Advantages for Your Career Path:

This position is designed to foster growth and provide a fulfilling work experience. Consider the following benefits:

  • Professional Development: Benefit from high-quality, free training designed to enhance your skills and prepare you for future leadership roles, including potential progression to Head Chef.
  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy sociable working hours with alternate weekend working, contributing to a healthier work-life integration.
  • Competitive Remuneration: Receive competitive pay that is regularly reviewed against the local market, along with enhancements for bank holidays.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Access a range of perks including a refer-a-friend scheme, cycle-to-work scheme, free DBS checks, and an extensive employee discount program offering savings on everyday shopping and leisure activities.
  • Supportive Environment: Be part of an organization that prioritizes employee well-being, offering an Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support and guidance.

What You'll Bring:

To thrive in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A strong foundation in professional cookery, evidenced by a Catering Diploma (City & Guilds/BTEC) and NVQ 2/3 in practical cookery.
  • Essential Health & Safety and Food Hygiene Certificates (minimum level 2).
  • A solid understanding of nutritionally balanced menu planning and experience catering to specific dietary needs.
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Attributes such as self-motivation, flexibility, enthusiasm, and the ability to foster team discipline and morale.

While experience in a care home setting, stock control, or budget management is advantageous, it is not essential. Above all, a genuine desire to improve the lives of others and a commitment to working in a rewarding, albeit busy, environment are paramount.

This Second Chef role at Care UK offers a compelling opportunity for aspiring culinary leaders to contribute meaningfully, develop their expertise, and build a rewarding career within a well-respected organization.
