The role

As a Senior Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Join a pioneering team driving the design of nuclear-powered submarines, shaping the future of maritime defence. Be part of an innovative environment where engineering excellence meets cutting-edge technology.

Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical engineering support and design expertise for Refit Support Equipment, ensuring seamless integration with submarine reactor plant fluid systems and other ship or facility systems.

Collaborate with engineers to plan, organise tasks, and drive progress toward objectives. Produce and review design documentation across the full lifecycle (Start-up to Implementation). Advise on design documentation maintenance and compliance with codes, standards, and legislation. Represent the Refit Support Equipment Group, leading site visits and guiding contract staff. Provide ongoing technical support for nuclear process assets throughout their lifecycle.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Senior Design Engineer

Industrial experience in a highly regulated sector (aviation, rail, oil and gas, or similar). Strong background in pressure systems design, maintenance, and compliance. Familiarity with engineering standards, safety regulations, and technical documentation. Ability to apply engineering expertise in complex operational environments.

Qualifications for the Senior Design Engineer

FdSc/HND or equivalent in Mechanical/Process Engineering discipline or HNC with substantial relevant experience also accepted.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
