## Unlock Your Potential as a Senior Cable Engineer with SSEN Transmission

Are you a seasoned engineering professional with a passion for driving the transition to a Net Zero future? SSEN Transmission is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cable Engineer to join their dynamic Offshore Project Engineering team. This is a pivotal role within their ambitious Pathway to 2030 programme, offering the chance to contribute significantly to the development of a robust electricity network for generations to come.

The Opportunity:

This permanent, full-time position is based in one of SSEN Transmission's key Scottish locations: Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, or Aberdeen. SSEN Transmission is at the forefront of upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy, and this role is central to that mission. You will be instrumental in delivering innovative HVDC and HVAC cable systems, working on projects that span both marine and terrestrial environments.

Key Responsibilities & Advantages for Candidates:

  • Shape the Future of Energy: Play a crucial role in delivering Net Zero by driving technical excellence, quality of installation, and best practices in cable system development and delivery.
  • Strategic Involvement: Contribute to Front End Engineering Design (FEED) activities, including options assessment, cable route and landfall development, and comprehensive risk assessment. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts.
  • Safety-First Approach: Embrace your Designer and Principal Designer duties, championing safety-in-design and proactively managing geotechnical and technical risks to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and quality.
  • Technical Authority: Define critical cable system requirements for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts and actively participate in tender reviews as a key member of the technical team.
  • Project Oversight: Review and approve contractor designs and deliverables, ensuring compliance with employer requirements and legislation, while also overseeing installation and commissioning works.
  • Mentorship and Growth: As a Senior Engineer, you'll have the rewarding opportunity to mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their development and building technical excellence across the team.

What Sets This Role Apart:

  • Competitive Remuneration & Benefits: The salary range is between £58,100 - £87,100, complemented by a car/car allowance, a performance-related bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. This includes financial support, wellbeing services, and family-focused entitlements.
  • Flexible Working: SSEN Transmission embraces a "Flexible First" approach, offering options to support your work-life balance.
  • Impactful Work: Be part of a company with a bold ambition to be a leading energy company in a Net Zero world, investing significantly in homegrown energy solutions.
  • Career Development: This role offers substantial opportunities for professional growth, particularly within the rapidly expanding offshore renewable energy sector.
  • Supportive Culture: SSE is committed to fostering an open, inclusive, and equal opportunity workplace where everyone can thrive.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Required Expertise: Candidates should possess a BEng/BSc (or higher) in a relevant engineering discipline and demonstrate proven technical expertise in HVDC or HVAC transmission cable project development and delivery.
  • Contractual & Regulatory Knowledge: Experience with ECC contracts and CDM regulations, particularly in the roles of Supervisor and Principal Designer, is essential.
  • Industry Insight: A strong understanding of industry standards, specifications, and best-practice recommendations is crucial for success in this role.
  • Essential Skills: Strong communication, effective time management, and the ability to mentor junior engineers are vital attributes.
  • Location Commitment: The role requires you to be based from one of the specified Scottish locations.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Cable Engineer looking to make a tangible difference in the energy landscape while advancing their career within a forward-thinking organisation. Embrace the challenge, contribute your innovative ideas, and help build the network for a cleaner future.
