British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a SENIOR FLAVOUR SCIENTIST – FIXED TERM (MATERNITY COVER) in Southampton

 

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?  

This role will lead research and innovation projects, assessment of potential, and the development of new flavour technologies and flavour science – in partnership with the respective Product Discovery & Technology teams - to ensure that all New Categories consumables pipelines (Vapour, Tobacco Heated Products, Modern Oral, and FMC) have the flavour and sensorial technology blocks to meet the requirements of the 5 Year Innovation plans.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Utilise experience in Flavour or Ingredient Science projects to lead and maintain existing multi-category flavour innovation projects in pipeline. Lead the development of breakthrough flavour (aroma/taste/sensate) technology for existing consumer benefit spaces and emerging new domains (by partnership across the flavour industry and with internal knowledge holders).Partner internally with Science Research organisation, Flavour Development and Consumables Discovery teams to co-develop new technology blocks involving flavour/sensorial dimensions, technical/product science models.Utilise data science and analytical experience to plan, select and implement appropriate level of data gathering and translation to partners.Project manage the delivery of projects through discovery stage gate requirements via standard methodology tools and governance process.Support IP, proof-of concept and proof-of-application products in the early phase of the innovation funnel (PLM).Collaborate with Open Innovation on transformational flavor materials and technologies and manage due diligence process with NDA, JDA and supplier set-up.Collaborate across functions including Consumer Product Safety, Product Compliance, Product Development, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Regulations.Identify internal collaborations opportunities with Science Research CoEs to accelerate discovery programs with key SME’s.Promote the continuous development of flavour-product technical models to demonstrate how flavour levers impact consumer experience. Collaborate with SMEs and the IP team to strengthen existing flavour-related IP where relevant.

What are we looking for?

 

Experience Required

Significant experience in Ingredient and/or Flavour/Fragrance or Chemical sciences, or applied research of biologically active chemistry.Industrial or commercial experience with Flavour/Fragrance Houses/ specialist ingredient suppliers for FMCG products.R&D experience in relevant consumer goods category or industry.Proficient understanding of differences in science principles and analytical fields to engage effectively with collaborators in early-stage innovation.

 

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

Science breadth and awareness to right size application of tools with objectives.Excellent interpersonal & communication skills for efficient partner management.Supervisory skills to develop team members.Efficient time and project management.

 

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

Higher degree/ postgrad qualifications in Natural sciences, Chemistry, Forensic Sciences, Food Sciences, BiotechEvidence of STEM activity.
