Bilfinger UK: Pioneering Procurement Excellence in Engineering & Maintenance

Bilfinger UK stands as a formidable leader in the engineering and maintenance sector, serving a diverse range of critical industries including chemical & petrochemical, nuclear, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals & biopharma, power & energy, utilities, renewables, and food & beverage. Their core mission is to optimize asset efficiency, ensuring peak availability and driving down maintenance expenditures. With a rich history spanning offshore and onshore facilities, Bilfinger offers comprehensive asset management services across the entire project lifecycle – from initial consulting and engineering through manufacturing, assembly, operations, maintenance, and even decommissioning. This commitment is brought to life by a highly skilled workforce of over 4,500 professionals operating from 14 strategic locations, all adhering to the highest echelons of safety, compliance, and quality.

The Opportunity: Lead Procurement for Major Projects

This pivotal role offers a compelling opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to take ownership of the end-to-end procurement process for Bilfinger UK's ambitious major projects. You will be instrumental in shaping the success of initiatives within dynamic sectors such as Oil & Gas and Nuclear. This position is designed for individuals who thrive on managing complex procurement cycles "from cradle to grave," leveraging extensive subcontracting expertise to drive project progress and mitigate risks.

Key Responsibilities & Advantages:

  • Strategic Project Involvement: Collaborate closely with a dynamic cross-functional team, including Sales, Bid, Engineering, Quality, and Legal departments, to steer procurement from conception to completion on significant projects.
  • Pre-Contract Award Contribution: Play a crucial role in supporting the Proposals team by defining procurement strategies for bids. This involves skillfully flowing down client terms and conditions to the supply chain, ensuring accurate pricing and minimizing potential gaps between client requirements and supplier delivery.
  • Tender Management Expertise: Lead and manage the tendering process efficiently, handling commercial clarifications and liaising with technical and quality experts. Your insights will be vital in shaping the pricing and lead time information presented to the Proposals Team.
  • Post-Contract Award Leadership: Develop and execute tailored package strategies based on desired outcomes, identified risks, and project drivers. You will also be responsible for creating and maintaining the Project Procurement Plan throughout the project's lifecycle.
  • Scope Development & Supplier Alignment: Work hand-in-hand with the engineering team to craft robust scopes of work that align with the capabilities of Bilfinger's approved supply chain. This ensures seamless integration of quality, health and safety, and project controls requirements.
  • Economically Advantageous Tender Selection: Conduct thorough tender assessments, meticulously evaluating technical, quality, and HSE elements to identify the most economically advantageous tenders.
  • Contract Negotiation & Management: Negotiate subcontracts with precision, ensuring all flow-downs, special conditions, amendments, site conditions, payment milestones, and liabilities are clearly defined and agreed upon.
  • Expediting & Compliance: Organize kick-off meetings and manage expediting requirements to keep projects on track. A critical aspect of this role involves strict adherence to and leadership in the application of Bilfinger SE Compliance requirements across all relevant departments.
  • Change Order Management: Effectively manage and process change orders throughout the project lifecycle.

Career Growth & Key Considerations:

This role presents an exceptional platform for career advancement within a highly respected and expanding organization. The emphasis on "cradle to grave" management and extensive subcontracting experience offers a comprehensive learning and development pathway. Candidates with a proven track record in creating, negotiating, and managing NEC forms of subcontract will find this role particularly rewarding. Experience with other contract forms such as MF1, FIDIC, and IChemE is highly desirable and will further enhance your candidacy.

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in a senior procurement role within a project-driven environment, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple subcontract packages concurrently.
  • Proficiency in procurement systems, particularly SAP.
  • In-depth knowledge of various contract forms, including but not limited to NEC3 & 4, MF1, FIDIC, and IChemE.
  • Familiarity with procurement of mechanical and electrical packages, control and instrumentation packages, general plant and equipment, site services, and professional services.
  • Experience in change management and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A proven ability to work effectively within a project team, delivering against demanding program and budget constraints.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body, such as CIPS (essential).
  • A professional or post-graduate procurement or management qualification.
  • Engineering qualifications (e.g., ONC, HNC, HND) are considered a desirable asset.

This is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to shape the future of major engineering and maintenance projects at a company renowned for its expertise and commitment to excellence. If you are a strategic procurement leader seeking a challenging and rewarding career move, Bilfinger UK awaits your application.
