The Opportunity: Pioneering Safety in Critical Industries

This role places you at the vanguard of engineering safety, specifically focusing on marine Cargo Handling Systems and Fuel Gas Systems. You will be instrumental in ensuring the safe design and operation of systems handling vital liquefied gases such as LNG, LPG, LCO₂, and emerging alternative fuels. Key Responsibilities and Your Day-to-Day Impact:

  • Lead Critical Safety Assessments: You will be responsible for orchestrating and leading vital internal and external safety workshops, including HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL determination and verification. This is your opportunity to apply your expertise and ensure rigorous safety standards are met.
  • Collaborate Across Global Programmes: Work closely with New Product Development and Project teams to embed safety considerations from the outset, prioritizing safety activities across international initiatives.

  • Develop and Mentor the Team: Coordinate training and development programs for the safety engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill enhancement.
  • Oversee Project Delivery: Manage direct reports and ensure the timely and effective delivery of safety outputs, crucial for the success of complex projects.

Hybrid Working: Flexibility for Enhanced Productivity

Babcock understands the importance of work-life balance. This role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with 2 days required in the office/onsite in Rosyth and 3 days working from home. This model allows for focused work and collaborative engagement.

What You Bring: Essential Experience and Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates will possess:

  • Deep Functional Safety Knowledge: Strong familiarity with IEC 61511 and functional safety systems is paramount.
  • Proven Workshop Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA workshops effectively.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including third parties.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in process engineering software and a strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Analytical Prowess: Robust technical and analytical skills specifically within the field of process safety.
  • Educational Foundation: A Degree in Process, Chemical, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Extensive Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in Process Safety Engineering.
  • Accredited Training: ICHEME-accredited or equivalent training in Hazard Study Leadership and SIL Determination is essential.
