SRE DevOps Engineer

Job at Lloyds Banking Group in Edinburgh, Edinburgh, EH3

Discover an impactful career as a SRE DevOps Engineer with a leading financial institution committed to modernizing Britain. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative journey, investing billions in people, data, and technology to redefine services for 26 million customers.

Join a dynamic team focused on the Client Servicing and Engagement platform. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and optimal performance of critical products in production environments. You'll play a key part in achieving and exceeding Service Level Objectives (SLOs), while also taking ownership of specific cloud infrastructure areas and guiding fellow SREs.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Strategic Impact: Be at the forefront of a significant digital transformation, shaping the future direction of technology and services for a large customer base.
  • Career Growth & Development: This role offers substantial opportunities for learning and development, particularly in cloud technologies and SRE best practices. You'll be encouraged to mentor junior engineers and contribute to hiring, further honing your leadership and technical expertise.
  • Flexible Working: The organization embraces flexible working, offering hybrid options (approximately 40% or two days in the office per week) and job-sharing, promoting a healthy work-life balance.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Enjoy a generous benefits package, including a substantial pension contribution (up to 15%), annual bonus, share schemes, adaptable lifestyle benefits, 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, and robust wellbeing and parental leave policies.
  • Inclusive Culture: Be part of an organization that champions diversity and inclusion, with a proven track record of initiatives supporting under-represented groups and a commitment to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Technical Expertise: A strong foundation in Kubernetes (a vital requirement) and Service Mesh (specifically Istio) is essential.
  • Cloud & CI/CD Proficiency: Experience with CI/CD automation tooling, automated testing (unit, integration, load, performance), and a deep understanding of observability, logging, monitoring, and alerting are crucial.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least two programming languages from Java, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript, PowerShell, or Bash/Shell is expected.
  • Azure Ecosystem Knowledge: Familiarity with Azure technologies such as App Gateway, API Manager, AKS, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, and Azure Firewall will be highly beneficial.
  • Problem-Solving & Automation Focus: The role requires a strong engineering mindset to investigate and resolve service issues, a continuous drive to improve observability, and a commitment to identifying and automating away toil.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Beyond technical skills, candidates should be ready to lead incident post-mortems, contribute to strategic planning, and actively mentor early-career engineers.

This is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to contribute to a purpose-driven organization that is actively shaping the financial services of the future. If you are a skilled SRE DevOps Engineer looking for a role with significant impact, continuous learning, and a supportive, inclusive environment, we encourage you to explore this exciting prospect.
