We currently have an exciting Technician role available on a Fixed Term secondment basis, until 31/07/2025; which we are seeking to fill with an enthusiastic, proactive, person who will deliver timely and high-quality technical support.  ‘My favourite part of the role is the versatility of daily activities; from routine maintenance on instrumentation, to training on instruments or techniques, to providing health and safety checks such as general laboratory checks and safety inductions. I enjoyed managing a suite of instruments, supporting colleagues who also provide training within the suite; as well as providing training to instrument users, and supporting researchers in developing their analytical skills.’ - previous role holderWhat the role involves:You will be working closely with the technical manager, other members of the technical team, and other faculty staff (both academic, and administrative) to provide high quality technical support for research programmes within the School of Pharmacy.  The school of pharmacy is the highest QS-ranked school within the university (position 12 in 2025 ranking), with highly a regarded research environment with an FTE rating of 98.71.The post holder will work as part of a team within the Boots Science Building (University Park) to provide support for staff and students within the building, having particular responsibilities for instrument laboratories.  Duties will include:•    Provision of laboratory inductions and training.•    Basic laboratory safety, and inductions on key pieces of equipment (centrifuges, balances, pipettes).•    Instrument training (Including, but not limited to FT-IR, NanoDrop (both UV and fluorescence), Fluorescence spectrophotometer,  UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and other equipment as required).•    Training in specific techniques, such as the creation and use of Piranha cleaning solution.•    Provide back up support to other members of the technical team during periods of absence on various pieces of instrumentation.•    Health and Safety monitoring within the laboratory environment.•    Monthly monitoring of the labs.•    Ensuring equipment has a current Risk Assessment and Standard Operating Procedure.•    Liaising with Estates and outside contractors.•    Manage the access charges for the use of multiple items of equipment (including but not limited to the spectroscopy suite, HPLC, Particle sizing suite) for the finance team to facilitate re-charging to the facilities project codes.•    Advise academic staff of any potential under or overspend, and source new equipment and quotes when requested.•    Requesting quotes from suppliers for replacement or new instrumentation.•    Assisting with the collection and consignment of hazardous materials.•    Line management of two staff members, including holiday approval and carrying out appraisal and development conversations.•    Plus other ad hoc duties in line with this job level.What we need from you:Minimum of HNC in relevant subject; or equivalent qualifications plus considerable work experience in relevant role; or substantial work experience in relevant role.What you’ll get in return:•    27 days annual leave [pro rata] (plus bank holidays and University closure days).•    A competitive annual salary.•    Hands-on experience within a highly successful Research department.•    Opportunities for CPD and networking with other highly skilled technicians.What next:
