About the role

We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and highly motivated individual to join our Wellbeing and Disability support team as a Sexual Assault and Harassment Support Officer.

This vital role will support the University of Surrey’s agenda to ensure students who are survivors of sexual misconduct and assault are provided with expert support, advice and guidance. (this is a part time position)

Key Responsibilities

•    Act as a first point of contact, offering sensitive guidance, safety planning, and onward referral to internal and external services. 

•    Oversee the Sexual Violence Liaison Officer (SVLO) service provision, acting as lead SVLO for the University, coordinating service volunteers and developing service enhancements.

•    Develop and contribute to prevention and awareness-raising initiatives, including campaigns, training sessions, and workshops for students and staff.

•    Be responsible for the tracking of compliance measures to meet the Office for Student E6 Condition of Registration.

•    Provide students with impartial advice and guidance about the options available to them, refer to external services and liaise with the university’s Office for Student Complaints and Regulations (OSCAR) team.

•    Contribute to the development of service policies, protocols, guidelines and strategies within area of practice as necessary, understand and reference safeguarding principles. 

About you 

We're looking for someone with:

•    Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build empathetic, supportive relationships.

•    Experience working with students in advisory or coaching roles.

•    A commitment to student development and equity of access.

•    Excellent organisational and communication skills.

•    Confidence in using data to track progress and inform interventions.

Please note that a DBS check will be undertaken as part of our pre-employment checks for the successful candidate.
