Your Purpose

We’re now looking to recruit a Technical R&D and Innovation Manager to join our brilliant Supply Chain Excellence Team.

This role will be responsible for the technical development and implementation of liquid and packaging related R&D and Innovation projects, including Commercial and/or Supply Chain driven projects at our internal operations and external partner sites, in WE. The role will lead the development of an NPD Funnel in close collaboration with Commercial functions. The role will also lead an R&D research programme into new brewing materials, processes & technologies, working in close collaboration with partners across WE Supply Chain and R&D colleagues across other Global regions.

Key Responsibilities

New Product Innovation

Responsible for the technical leadership of priority NPD projects of medium to high levels of complexity. Develop and implement both Liquid and Packaging related solutions. Define project plan, success criteria and carry out effective pilot and large-scale trials, in collaboration with key stakeholders to deliver targeted results aligned with optimal supply chain solutions.

NPD Funnel

Responsible for leading the technical development of an NPD funnel, exploring and evaluating materials, technologies, and supply chain solutions to create prototypes which will influence the future NPD pipeline. Work in close collaboration with colleagues in the R&DI team, internal commercial stakeholders and external partners and technology providers to create inspirational and relevant solutions.

New Brewing Technologies

Responsible for leading a programme of works exploring new brewing technologies, materials and processes. Work with cross functional teams to identify, research and evaluate opportunities in line with strategic priorities and the longer-term vision for Brewery of the Future. Share opportunities with R&D stakeholders across Global regions and collaborate on opportunities where appropriate.

Strategy Development and Stakeholder engagement

Support the development of R&D and Innovation strategy in line with wider Strategic Business Objectives. Support execution through development of strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Commercial, Network and Supply) and external partners. Build strong collaborative partnerships across Supply Chain and Commercial functions to build personal and team capabilities, identify opportunities, and influence future direction.

Value Optimisation (VOP) and Design to Value (DTV)

Work collaboratively and proactively with colleagues in the Supply Chain Excellence team and key stakeholders across the wider business in the development of Value Optimisation and Design to Value initiatives, to build the project pipeline in line with Strategic Business Objectives and the Long-Range Plan. This includes support in development of the sustainability, digital, capacity, and contingency agendas.

Previous significant levels of industrial Food and Beverage operations experience with end-to-end process knowledge including strong experience of both liquid processing and packaging operations, materials and technologies. Experience of working in a R&D and Innovation environment. Experience of managing technically complex projects impacting across multiple functions and sites. A self-motivated “can do” attitude and innovative mindset with ability to learn quickly and find creative solutions to problems. Effective communication and interpersonal skills across all organisation levels. Leadership capabilities – Ability to work proactively and with minimal supervision. Able to lead others without direct line management authority. Capability to take on added responsibility and has a passion to grow and develop within the organisation.
