We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent organisation and communication skills to take up a new role as University Archivist. In this role you will apply your specialist professional knowledge and leadership skills to the management of the University Archive and other special collections and archives assets. Working in partnership with a range of stakeholders you will advise, enable and progress opportunities to support outcomes for scholarly research and research led teaching activities, maintain Special Collections and Archives to meet sector level accreditation standards, and manage engagement activity.
As University Archivist you can expect to be involved in:
Advising and liaising with the Deputy University Secretary and staff across the University to ensure that relevant materials are transferred to and preserved in the University Archive.Managing, developing, and curating the University Archive and other special collections in line with sector standards, ensuring their relevance to the University’s education, research, and engagement activities.Supervising and training assistants and volunteers working with Special Collections and Archives material to ensure all activity is aligned to recognised national standards and in line with relevant policies and protocols.What will you bring to the role?
Postgraduate and/or professional qualification in Archives and/or Records Management, or equivalent experience working in a research library or archive.A proven track record in the management and provision of special collections or archives or museum services.Experience and understanding of issues relating to special collection and archives management including conservation, preservation, and digitisation.Knowledge of good practice in information governance associated with archival material, including records management, data protection, intellectual property rights, and copyright.For more information about what you can look forward to if you join us, visit our dedicated webpage: Working at Kent
