We are seeking a Village Taskforce Chargehand within the grounds maintenance service based at the Market Weighton Depot.
The hours of work are 37 hours per week, normal working is Monday to Friday and you must be able to report to the depot ready for work by 7.30am in a morning.
You will be responsible for undertaking work on all green space and street scene activities as required, including: grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, herbicide application, litter picking, removal of detritus, pruning, path edging, hard landscaping, preparation of planting areas, planning/design and planting of flower beds, watering and ongoing care of plants and repairs to lawns.
A suitable level of fitness is required to cope with physical demands of job, i.e. able to walk for a minimum of 5 hours a day and the capability to move heavy equipment. Exposure to hand arm vibrating equipment will be required working within HSE guidelines. You will need to have the ability to work outdoors in all weathers.
Experience of driving triple mowers, tractors and other machinery associated with grounds maintenance operations is desirable however training will be given. A full driving licence is essential.
You must be capable of working either on your own or as part of a team and of using your own initiative to ensure the completion of work schedules to a satisfactory standard.You must be capable of supervising and allocating work to permanent and seasonal workers within the team, be good at communicating with your team and encouraging good morale amongst the workforce.
You must have good customer service skills and be able to confidently liaise with members of the public, answering queries as required or directing them to the relevant place if they require further information.
