Get to know the role Actuarial â Year In Industry (Bristol, York): At Aviva, we have one of the largest networks of actuaries in the country, so you will be in good hands from the start. Based in our Investment, Wealth and Retirement (IWR) business in York, our Year in Industry students have numerous opportunities to learn and network while developing their skills and expertise. Our placement scheme roles are within the Financial and Regulatory Reporting team and the Group Actuarial and Capital Change team, giving you real responsibility for tasks and decisions that will affect our business. The work includes: Production of Solvency II and IFRS results for existing and new business Updating complex spreadsheets and code, checking their inputs, and analysing the results Understanding Excel formulae, and investigating issues in R code and in our data Identifying areas of the process that could be improved (and improving them!) What youâll get A salary of £26,500 Valuable real-world experience to support your academic studies Huge scope for on-the-job learning and other development opportunities A great support network to help you grow into your role 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays Flexible working and wellbeing support Opportunities to get involved and give back to our local communities with paid volunteering time Contributory pension scheme Discounts on all Aviva products Eligible for performance-related bonus What weâre looking for To be considered for these 12-month placements, you must be: Studying for an undergraduate degree in a STEM-relating subject, and be on course for at least a 2:2 Have a minimum of a B grade in A Level Maths or equivalent On a course that supports a placement year Available to work full-time (35 hours per week) from July 2025 to the end of June 2026 Eligible to work in the UK for the duration of your placement, without requiring sponsorship Intending to return to university for your final year of study after the placement (graduating in 2027) And have: Strong numerical and analytical abilities, with capability to interpret data and solve complex problems Good communication skills, and proficiency with a variety of computer packages, particularly Excel, and coding languages such as R and Python Strong attention to detail A working knowledge of industry products and regulations, alongside an understanding of actuarial methodologies and techniques â knowing there plenty more to learn during the placement Where could you be based? The Actuarial Year in Industry role is based in Bristol and York: both buzzing places in which to launch your career. Youâll need to live within commuting distance of the office where the role is based, or willing to relocate prior to your start date, as youâll need to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, working from home.
