Job at SSE in Inverness, Highland Council

Review: BIM Manager Opportunity with SSEN Transmission

This is a compelling opportunity for an experienced Information Management professional to play a pivotal role in shaping the digital future of Scotland's energy infrastructure. SSEN Transmission, a key player in delivering a net-zero future, is seeking a dedicated BIM Manager to lead the development of digital data and modelling management across their extensive energy framework.

Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Impactful Role: You will be at the forefront of driving digital transformation within a critical national infrastructure sector. Your work will directly contribute to the successful delivery of large-scale energy projects and the transition to a net-zero world.
  • Career Growth and Development: This role offers significant opportunities for professional advancement. Leading on the development and implementation of ISO 19650 standards and working with cutting-edge technology will undoubtedly enhance your expertise and marketability. The "Flexible First" approach also suggests a commitment to work-life balance, supporting your career journey.
  • Competitive Compensation and Benefits: The salary range of £42,600 - £64,000+, coupled with a performance-related bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, demonstrates a strong commitment to rewarding talent. The inclusion of benefits supporting family, finances, and wellbeing highlights a holistic approach to employee support.
  • Strategic Location: With base locations in Perth, Aberdeen, or Inverness, you have the opportunity to live and work in scenic Scottish environments while contributing to vital national projects.
  • Collaborative Environment: The role involves close collaboration with legal, commercial, IT, and GIS teams, as well as engaging with contractors and suppliers. This cross-functional interaction fosters a rich learning environment and broadens your understanding of project delivery.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Extensive BIM Experience: A strong track record as a Lead BIM Coordinator, BIM Manager, or Information Manager on major infrastructure projects is essential. Familiarity with BIM360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is highly desirable, though experience with other Common Data Environments (CDEs) is also valued.
  • Technical Proficiency: You'll need a deep understanding of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and modelling, particularly in the energy or linear/vertical infrastructure sectors. Proficiency with tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, and Navisworks is crucial. Experience with GIS applications would be a significant advantage.
  • ISO 19650 Expertise: A solid grasp of ISO 19650 standards and UK BIM Framework guidance is fundamental. This role requires you to define and manage Information Requirements (EIR) and ensure compliance with industry best practices.
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: The ability to effectively engage with stakeholders, resolve technical and information management queries, and manage data across various integrated systems will be key to success. Leading BIM Coordinators in model interrogation and clash detection also requires a proactive and analytical mindset.
  • Commitment to Net Zero: As SSE is dedicated to a net-zero future, candidates who are passionate about sustainability and its role in infrastructure development will find this role particularly rewarding.

This BIM Manager position represents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious professional to make a tangible contribution to Scotland's energy future while advancing their career within a forward-thinking and supportive organisation.
