What You Will Do:

This role offers a unique perspective on the consenting journey, with a primary focus on driving successful consenting and environmental delivery during construction. You will:

  • Support multi-disciplinary teams in preparing for site construction, ensuring timely discharge of conditions and robust consent/environmental contract compliance.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong external stakeholder relationships with consenting bodies, statutory authorities, and government departments.
  • Collaborate with project teams during development stages to secure vital Planning Permission and Electricity Act consents for nationally significant infrastructure.
  • Coordinate site appraisals and optioneering studies to thoroughly understand and mitigate consenting and technical risks.
  • Manage external consultations for proportionate and robust Environmental Impact Assessments.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

To excel in this role and leverage the opportunities it presents, candidates should possess:

  • Deep Understanding of Scottish Planning: Strong knowledge of the Scottish planning process, consenting regimes, and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) legislation, particularly within the Scottish rural environment.
  • Proven Project Management Prowess: Demonstrable experience in managing consenting and environmental compliance for major projects, encompassing definition, setup, consultant management, cost, risk, quality, and programme.
  • Educational Foundation: A degree in Environmental or Planning disciplines, ideally with postgraduate study, and experience in relevant sectors such as infrastructure, construction, environmental planning, statutory bodies, or consultancy. Membership with a relevant professional body is a desirable asset.
