Keep Nuclear Energy Safe

At Cavendish Nuclear we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as an Assistant Project Manager at our Leicester, Leicestershire site.

The role

As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll help orchestrate the people, equipment and information that keep complex nuclear engineering projects running smoothly.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:

Coordinate the calibration, readiness and movement of specialist inspection equipment to and from site, ensuring everything arrives where it needs to be, when it needs to be. Manage training data and project documentation so the team has accurate, timely information to plan and report. Liaise with site contacts, EDF stakeholders and external partners, building strong relationships and keeping actions on track. Report into the Project Manager, track schedule and cost, and escalate risks early to maintain delivery momentum. Respond quickly to changing priorities in a fast‑paced, highly regulated environment, driving continuous improvement.

This is a full‑time position working 37 hours per week, based at our Leicester, Leicestershire site. Hybrid working patterns are available, and we offer flexible hours with the option to work condensed hours and finish early on Fridays (12:30); overtime may be available at the manager’s discretion. There will be occasional travel to other sites, including Hartlepool (County Durham), Heysham (Lancashire), and Torness (East Lothian).

Essential experience of the Assistant Project Manager:

Project management or logistics background in a highly regulated or construction environment. Strong communication skills with confidence engaging internal teams and external partners. Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Excel and Word to manage plans, data and reports. Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. A passion for working in nuclear, defence and engineering, with a commitment to safety and quality.

Qualifications for the Assistant Project Manager:

We value equivalent experience — a degree is not required for this role. Association for Project Management (APM) qualification (or willingness to undertake it); Health and Safety training (e.g., IOSH/NEBOSH) and prior nuclear industry exposure would be advantageous.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
