Job at University of Sunderland in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, SR1

About the University of Sunderland

The University of Sunderland provides life-changing opportunities to over 27,500 students across our campuses in Sunderland, London, and Hong Kong, as well as through global partnerships with learning institutions in 19 countries.

Ranked among the UK’s top 30 universities (Guardian University Guide 2026), we’re proud to hold the top position in the North East for student support services (Daily Mail University Guide 2026) and teaching quality (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026).

We’re entering an exciting new chapter, driven by a bold vision and redefined strategic ambitions, designed to embrace the dynamic higher education landscape both at home and internationally.

With outstanding facilities, an inclusive culture, and a vibrant, ever-evolving city, now is the perfect time to join the University of Sunderland and be part of our exciting journey ahead.

About the role

Our Timetabling and Awards Team supports a wide range of core University activities for students and staff. Working across the institution, the team provides important administrative support for attendance monitoring, timetabling, examinations, digital awards, and graduation ceremonies. As part of Academic Registry & Governance, the team works closely with colleagues across the University to help ensure students receive accurate information and a positive experience throughout their studies.

The Awards Administrator role is an introductory-level position and we are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and efficient individual. The team offers a flexible, customer‑focused, professional administrative service to ensure the smooth running of our core team functions.

This is an interesting and varied role where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across the whole team, undertaking a wide range of duties. The main focus will be on student engagement, awards, and the production of certificates, transcripts and verifications, as well as supporting graduation ceremonies.

This is a full-time post on a fixed-term basis until the end of November 2026.

What you can bring

The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm, a can-do attitude, good communication skills and a passion for learning. You will have good IT skills and an enthusiasm for learning new systems. We are looking for someone that can deal with a variety of situations, including wide‑ranging enquiries and taking a positive approach to problem solving.

In addition to this, you should possess demonstrable experience of using personal judgement to escalate areas of concern, of working independently, and of thriving in a role that requires effective planning, organisational skills and strong attention to detail. Applicants will be able to demonstrate the ability to manage their own time and successfully meet deadlines.

The successful candidate will have a positive approach to their work, a desire to undertake continuous self‑improvement, and the motivation to proactively acquire new knowledge.

If this sounds like the role for you, we would welcome your application.
