If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about making a tangible impact, this Safety Officer role presents a compelling opportunity.

This position is more than just a job; it's an invitation to shape the safety culture of a growing airline. As a Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in supporting the Deputy Safety and Security Manager in implementing and enhancing BA Euroflyer's Safety Management System (SMS). Your primary focus will be on conducting thorough safety investigations, meticulously analysing safety data, and formulating recommendations to elevate operational safety standards. Collaboration will be key, working across various departments to foster a proactive safety mindset and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities and What You'll Be Doing:

  • Conducting comprehensive investigations into safety incidents across all operational areas, including flight operations, ground handling, engineering, and fatigue events.
  • Analysing safety data and identifying trends from Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) and SMS reports to proactively mitigate risks.
  • Ensuring accurate documentation of investigation findings within the safety management system.
  • Contributing to the development and presentation of safety reports to key boards and groups, such as the Safety Action Group (SAG) and Safety and Compliance Review Board (SCRB).
  • Taking ownership of Safety Action Groups (SAG), managing documentation and chairing meetings.
  • Assisting in the creation and dissemination of safety promotion materials to enhance awareness.
  • Liaising with internal departments and external regulatory bodies (e.g., CAA, AAIB, DfT) to champion safety initiatives and share best practices.
  • Monitoring structural exceedances and collaborating with the Engineering department for prompt resolution.
  • Contributing to the development of robust Fatigue Risk Management processes.
  • Providing support and coaching to operational teams on safety risk assessments.
  • Participating in safety audits, working groups, and continuous improvement projects as needed.

What You'll Bring to British Airways:

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a strong foundation of skills and experience:

  • Analytical and Investigative Prowess: The ability to dissect complex situations, identify root causes, and draw logical conclusions is paramount.
  • Proactive Planning and Prioritization: A knack for managing your own workload effectively, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines, even under pressure.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Clear and concise communication, both written and verbal, with a particular strength in report writing.
  • Detail-Oriented Approach: An acute eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy are essential for identifying potential risks within operational processes.
  • Flexibility: A willingness to travel when required to support various safety initiatives.

Your Experience in Safety and Aviation:

Prospective candidates will benefit from demonstrating a proven track record in the following areas:

  • Experience in conducting and reporting on safety investigations.
  • A solid understanding of Safety Management System (SMS) principles and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to identify potential safety and security issues and propose effective strategies.
  • Familiarity with UK CAA approved Airline Security Programmes.
  • Experience in cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with regulatory authorities to foster a "best practice" perception.
  • Proficiency in FDM analysis and fatigue risk management, ideally including experience in developing a Fatigue Risk Management System.
