We are seeking an enthusiastic and versatile Laboratory Technician to join our technical support team in the School of Science and the Environment.
Working primarily in the Biological Sciences subject areas you will provide technical support to our teaching and research laboratories.
Your role will mainly involve supporting laboratory practical sessions by preparing and setting out equipment and materials and working closely with students to explain and demonstrate experiments and how to use equipment. You will advise and support students with research projects, maintain prep rooms and research labs.
It is essential you have a degree in a biological science or related science subject. You will need to have excellent laboratory and chemical safety knowledge and the ability to prepare reagents and solutions for class practicals.
You will be expected to work flexibly and have, or develop, skills to allow you to support the team’s delivery across a range of disciplines, for example mammalian cell culture or environmental analysis. You will be highly motivated and meticulous in your work, with a professional work ethic, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively, sharing your expertise to develop the knowledge and skills of colleagues and students.
You will be highly organised, have excellent communication skills, the ability to organise your own workload and take initiative as appropriate.
