Babcock's Supportability Engineering Graduate Programme offers a unique and comprehensive pathway into a vital field that underpins national defence and complex operational readiness. This two-year rotational programme is designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to excel as a Supportability Engineer.

Key Advantages for Aspiring Graduates:

  • Comprehensive Lifecycle Exposure: This programme provides unparalleled insight into the entire product lifecycle, from initial design and development through to ongoing maintenance and even responsible disposal. This holistic view is invaluable for understanding the strategic importance of supportability.
  • Core Supportability Skill Development: You will gain hands-on experience in critical areas such as developing and managing technical documentation, mastering material management, and conducting Logistics Support Analysis. This practical application of theory will build a robust foundation.
  • Impactful Contribution: Your work will directly influence the performance and availability of some of the UK's most critical defence platforms. This means your efforts will have a tangible and significant impact on national security and operational effectiveness.
  • Structured Rotational Placements: The programme's structure features four to six-month rotational placements across various Supportability Engineering teams. This approach ensures a well-rounded understanding of the discipline and allows you to discover your specific areas of interest, whether in technical analysis, digital systems, or lifecycle strategy.
  • Dedicated Development and Mentorship: From day one, you will benefit from structured support, personalised training, and dedicated mentorship. This commitment to your growth extends to expert-led masterclasses covering essential professional skills and comprehensive guidance and financial support for achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Competitive Starting Salary and Benefits: The programme offers a minimum starting salary of £35,000, with the potential for this to increase based on location, role, and your qualifications. Beyond the salary, you will receive a generous holiday allowance, a strong pension scheme, employee share options, and access to flexible benefits like a cycle-to-work scheme and employee discounts.
  • Focus on Wellbeing: Babcock prioritises your overall wellbeing, offering comprehensive support covering mental, physical, financial, and social aspects, including an Employee Assistance Programme, digital GP services, and health checks.
  • Engaging Work Environment: Based at the Babcock Technology Centre in Bristol, you will be part of a collaborative team working on cutting-edge projects, including innovative Operations Centres, technology insertion programmes, and predictive data analytics. Opportunities may also arise for placements at other significant locations like Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • STEM Degree Requirement: A degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) subject is a prerequisite for this programme.
  • Security Clearance: Please be aware that this programme is subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions. You must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance. Your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency may impact your eligibility. Candidates are encouraged to review the GOV.UK guidance on UK Security Vetting clearance levels.
  • Location and Potential Relocation: The primary location for this programme is the Babcock Technology Centre in Bristol. While the majority of placements will be in Bristol, there are potential opportunities to gain experience at other sites, such as Plymouth.
  • Application Timeline: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the programme may close to new applications if a high volume of interest is received.
