Job Description Head of Radiation Protection Full Time, On-Site Derby, Raynesway Rolls-Royce Submarines is part of an enterprise involved with delivering a range of strategically important programmes for the nation. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week. The role: Assuming the responsibilities of Lead RPA and Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA) to the business which includes two Nuclear Licensed Sites and one Authorised Site, you will develop Radiation Protection Policy covering Health Physics, Dosimetry, Radioactive Waste and Environmental Permitting requirements for the business. Leading the Central Radiation Protection team to deliver an independent programme of assessment and surveillance activities with regard, to IRR17, EPR, and Site License condition compliance. What you will be doing Set Radiation Protection policy and provide guidance to ensure compliance with relevant legislation throughout RRSL. Provide recommendations, observations, advice & guidance to the Licensee Authority and to all operational teams Develop the risk-based programme of Assurance activities with regard to IRR17 and EPR, in particular RSR Permits, taking account of other regulatory and legislative requirements. Prioritising assessment activities according to perceived risk factors and compliance issues. Lead improvements to RP and functional maturity. Define and monitor RP function and team development requirements, identify RP critical roles and competencies. Provide subject matter expertise and represent the Submarines business on functional initiatives and lead improvements by proposing and implementing changes. Lead the development and maintenance of the management arrangements for undertaking RP and integrated assurance activities on the RRSL Nuclear Licensed Sites and wider business. Provide expert advice and guidance to the wider Rolls-Royce group and act as the Intelligent Customer (IC) for any technical work outsourced through the wider Rolls-Royce organisation or external supply chain. Qualifications Degree level or equivalent qualification in Radiation Protection or an appropriate discipline and awareness of the latest UK Standards, Codes of Practice and Guidance Documents Hold a certificate of competence to act as an RPA/ Hold a certificate of competence to act as a RWA or be working towards this/ Membership of SRP or equivalent. Experience of emergency arrangements exercises and The Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2019. Experience in the design or operation of nuclear/radiological facilities and their regulation within the UK (including nuclear, radiological, and environmental safety, security & safeguards) Experience with nuclear site licence and environmental permit conditions (and other regulatory requirements) Experience with relevant ONR/EA Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs) and Regulatory Guidance/ developing, planning, undertaking, and reporting independent oversight and assurance assessments We are an equal opportunities employer.
