About our Team Our team owns Life and Social Science journals, as part of our larger Science, Technology and Medical Publishing organisation. We work collaboratively internally across the business and externally with academics to ensure our journals are best in field. We take ownership for the reputation of our journals and the quality of the content we publish. Summary Do you have a genuine interest and background in academic research and are you looking to support researchers in scholarly publication? Then this might be your opportunity to join us as a Summer Intern within the Science, Technology and Medical Publishing organisation. We are looking for an Intern to support the Life and Social Sciences group. In this role you will work together with a group of Publishers, Publishing Directors, Publishing Administrative Coordinators, Journal Managers and other STMJ staff. You will get a chance to shadow different members of the publishing teams and to contribute to important work to improve the author experience and to develop the journals. You will gain a general overview of academic journal publishing. Responsibilities will include Taking ownership of interesting and varied administration tasks, supporting the publishers in the smooth running and success of our journals. Undertaking market research to define specific emerging scientific areas of research and presenting outcomes to internal and external editors. Attending regular meetings with the team and the wider life and social sciences groups Gathering data, information, and facts by using existing reports. Including building analyses for publishers to use in proposals, reports, editorial appointments, and meetings. Contributing to Best Practice initiatives for operational procedures and workflow efficiency through collaborating with peers and internal teams. Managing various systems to ensure that data is up to date and accurate. Supporting Publishers in journal development to accelerate growth of published content through market research and topic analysis. Teamworking: you will need to work closely with team members and other publishing colleagues to help deliver on collaborative projects and goals. Requirements Be a current student on the BSc or MSc Publishing course at the University of Derby Good IT skills, with Excel most important, but ability to quickly understand and utilise more complex database tools. Excellent organizational, time-management, communication, and teamwork skills Have a can-do attitude and a collaborative approach to working. Demonstrate experience in setting, realising goals and making a difference internally and to our customers. Have great organizational and prioritizing skills and be able to provide timely and consistent support to teams. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate an eye for detail. Be data literate and have an analytical mindset with skills to manage data and derive insights. Be able to gather data for analysis from several sources and systems and present in a clear and readable format. Have excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel and the ability to learn new systems. Enjoy collaborating with teams to deliver projects that help make a difference.
