Java Developer

Join Barclays as a Java Developer and play a key role in building and enhancing APIs and microservices within the Credit Cards, Electronic Payments, Lending, and Current & Savings Accounts domains. As part of a collaborative feature team, youll contribute to a wide range of projects supporting business logic through a portfolio of over 170 domain-based APIs. Youll help deliver scalable, efficient, and robust solutions that ensure smooth data flow to upstream systems. The team works with both Java 8 and Java 21, offering the opportunity to engage with modern technologies in a dynamic and evolving environment.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

Strong hands-on experience in Java 8, with solid understanding of core concepts and object-oriented programming.Proficiency in building applications using Spring Framework, including modules such as Spring Boot and Spring MVC.Experience with unit testing using JUnit to ensure high-quality, testable code.

Other highly valued skills include:

Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.Familiarity with OpenAPI Specification (OAS) or RAML for designing and documenting APIs.Working knowledge of Java 21.

The successful candidate will be based in Radbroke Hall, Knutsford.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organizations technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
