Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Paramedic

Job at University of West London in Greater London

This review provides an overview of the exciting opportunity for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Science at the University of West London (UWL). UWL is a highly reputable institution, recognized for its strong performance in national university guides and its commitment to student satisfaction and diversity.

About the Opportunity:

The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare (CNMH) is a leading provider of healthcare education, known for its innovative teaching methods. This role is within the pioneering MSc Paramedic Science course, the first pre-registration postgraduate program of its kind in the UK. This is a one-year maternity cover contract, offering a chance to contribute to a thriving and student-centered program.

Advantages for Candidates:

  • Career Progression: This position offers a clear path for advancement, with roles available at both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer levels. The Senior Lecturer role specifically involves leadership in module development and management.
  • Innovative Program: You will be part of a groundbreaking MSc Paramedic Science course, at the forefront of postgraduate paramedic education in the UK.
  • Strategic Partnerships: The role involves collaboration with the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS), providing valuable real-world connections and insights.
  • Professional Development: UWL is committed to staff development, offering support for obtaining a Higher Education Academy (HEA) fellowship, potentially through an advanced Level 7 apprenticeship.
  • Diverse and Inclusive Environment: UWL celebrates diversity and actively promotes inclusivity. The university is a Disability Confident Employer and supports the Gender Equality Athena SWAN Charter. There is a particular encouragement for applications from individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBT+ identities, and with disabilities.
  • Reputable Institution: Working for UWL means contributing to an institution recognized for its academic excellence and high student satisfaction.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Contract Length: This is a one-year maternity cover contract, which may be an important factor for candidates seeking long-term stability.
  • Qualifications and Experience:
    • Senior Lecturer: Requires a Master's Degree, a teaching qualification, and current professional registration with the HCPC as a Paramedic (highly desirable). Experience in assessing evidence translation to practice at Master's level, supervising dissertations, and curriculum development is also key.
    • Lecturer: Requires a Master's Degree (or working towards completion) and HCPC registration as a Paramedic is desirable. Experience in teaching and assessment in a clinical or higher education setting is beneficial. A teaching qualification is not required for this level.
    • For both roles: Knowledge of current UK Paramedic Science theory and practice is essential.
  • Commitment to Values: Candidates are expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, self-motivation, workload management skills, and a commitment to UWL's vision and values.
  • Enhanced DBS Check: An Enhanced DBS Certificate will be required upon appointment.
  • Eligibility to Work: Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Sponsorship: This position does not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker sponsorship.
  • Interview Logistics: Please note that travel expenses for interviews are not reimbursed, and interviews are planned for November 24th, 2025.

This role presents a compelling opportunity for experienced educators and aspiring academics to make a significant contribution to paramedic science education within a supportive and forward-thinking university.
