About the Opportunity

Westinghouse is seeking an Engineer 1 to contribute significantly to the delivery of critical Mechanical Engineering deliverables across various projects. This role offers a dynamic environment where you will gain hands-on experience working individually, under the guidance of experienced Principal or Senior Mechanical Engineers, or as a valued member of multi-discipline teams. Reporting to the Manager, Process & Equipment Engineering, you will be based in Springfield.

Key Responsibilities to Expect:

In this role, you will be instrumental in:

  • Developing design solutions using industry-standard software like AutoCAD and Inventor, creating essential drawings for proposals and manufacturing.
  • Performing scoping calculations and basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs.
  • Producing critical technical documents such as Basis of Design, Testing Strategies/Schedules, and Method Statements.
  • Actively participating in design meetings and technical reviews, effectively presenting your technical solutions.
  • Undertaking plant and site surveys to gather essential project information.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

To thrive in this role, candidates should possess the following:

  • Educational Foundation: An MEng degree is preferred, demonstrating a strong theoretical and practical understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Practical Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a similar mechanical engineering position is essential to contribute effectively from the outset.
  • Professional Development: While not always a prerequisite, being a Chartered Engineer/Incorporated Engineer or actively working towards it, along with a commitment to Continual Professional Development, is highly valued.
  • Regulatory Acumen: A solid working knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, codes, and directives, and the ability to apply them.
  • Construction & Design Management: An appreciation and understanding of the Construction & Design Management Regulations is important for project execution.
  • Manufacturing Insight: A good understanding of manufacturing codes/standards and familiarity with various manufacturing techniques will be a significant asset.
