Unlocking Potential: A Review of the PLM Support Engineer Opportunity in Submarines

For ambitious engineers and IT professionals seeking to make a tangible impact within a critical sector, this PLM Support Engineer role at Rolls-Royce Submarines presents a compelling career advancement. Located in Derby, Raynesway, this full-time position offers a unique chance to contribute to the digital transformation of a significant engineering operation.

This role is ideal for individuals who thrive on bridging the gap between advanced technology and user adoption. You will be instrumental in supporting over 2500 engineers who rely on sophisticated Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools, most notably Teamcenter and NX, for their daily work. The opportunity is particularly exciting as the team is embracing a digital engineering future and transitioning to a modern, improvement-focused support model.

Key Advantages for Aspiring Professionals:

  • Impactful Role in a Vital Industry: Contribute to cutting-edge technologies within the submarine sector, a field with immense national importance.
  • Digital Transformation Leadership: Be at the forefront of modernizing PLM capabilities and supporting a digital engineering vision, offering valuable experience in IT evolution.
  • User-Centric Engagement: This role emphasizes strong interpersonal skills, focusing on understanding and empowering a large user base. You'll connect users with resources, resolve issues, and act as a crucial voice back to the IT team.
  • Comprehensive PLM Ecosystem: Gain hands-on experience with a complex PLM environment comprising 16 integrated applications, providing a deep understanding of enterprise-level software solutions.
  • Career Development & Training: The opportunity to develop and deploy user guidance material, and potentially expand your support scope to other engineering IT applications, fosters continuous learning and skill enhancement.
  • Competitive Package & Benefits: Rolls-Royce offers a competitive salary, bonus, employee support, and discounts, alongside a commitment to employee well-being.
  • Flexible Hybrid Working: Benefit from a hybrid working model, allowing for a balance between office-based collaboration and remote flexibility, with an average of three days in the office for key activities.
  • Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion: Join an organization that values diverse perspectives and is dedicated to fostering an inclusive working environment where everyone can thrive.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Security Clearance Requirement: Please note that a Security Check (SC) clearance without caveats is a mandatory requirement. Rolls-Royce will support you in obtaining this if you do not currently hold it.
  • UK Nationality: Due to the sensitive nature of the work and asset protection, UK nationality is a requirement. Dual nationals will undergo additional scrutiny.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with Teamcenter and NX is essential. While not mandatory, experience with BCT Inspector, Computer Aided Design and Manufacture, and Teamcenter reporting/analytics will be highly advantageous.
  • User Support Acumen: Demonstrable experience supporting a user community and partnering with IT delivery teams is a significant plus, highlighting the importance of communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Business Process Understanding: Knowledge of Business Change Management Processes (Project, Product, and Production) and IT Change Management Processes is valuable for effective role execution.
  • Engineering/IT Foundation: An engineering or IT-related degree, or equivalent experience, along with approximately 5 years of experience demonstrating engineering process understanding and IT support landscape knowledge, is desirable.

This PLM Support Engineer position is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to grow within a technologically advanced and strategically vital organization. If you are a motivated individual with a passion for supporting users and contributing to digital transformation, this role offers a rewarding path for your career.
