Join Barclays as a Platform Engineering Lead, where youll be responsible for driving the development of our internal Developer Portal. This role leverages your full-stack technical expertise to create the digital front door to our engineering ecosystem—a unified platform that centralizes access to engineering tools, documentation, and resources.

As a hands-on individual contributor, you will lead end-to-end development, from frontend interfaces to backend services and the underlying infrastructure. Your focus will be on building a cohesive technical solution that seamlessly integrates with our existing ecosystem, delivering an outstanding developer experience. You'll guide the engineering team through implementation, balancing technical excellence with practical delivery timelines.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

Significant software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadershipFrontend development experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular)Backend development experience with enterprise-grade technologies (ideally Spring Boot)Infrastructure as Code and cloud platform experience (ideally AWS)Familiarity with Docker and container orchestrationExcellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple teams

Highly valued additional skills include:

A strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practicesExperience mentoring and developing engineering talent

This role is based in Glasgow.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organizations technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
